QPR 3 Burnley 3

By Burnley FC
February 1 2014

BURNLEY showed exactly why they intend to chase down the Championship’s top two in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Loftus Road.

Danny Ings and Sam Vokes took their combined tally for the season to 37 as the deadly duo twice pulled the Clarets level, either side of the break.

Vokes then scored his 15th of the season to put the Clarets in the driving seat, before a late debut goal from Modibo Maiga ended the scoring in a breathless contest.

Sean Dyche named an unchanged starting line-up, with Ross Wallace returning to the Burnley squad, as a substitute, for the first time since August.

And it didn’t take long for the fireworks to start, as the Clarets fell behind within seven minutes.

Nico Kranjcar’s initial corner had been met by an Andrew Johnson header that Tom Heaton had to turn over at his near post.

But from the second corner, new loan signing Kevin Doyle rose unchallenged to plant a header into the far corner to make it the worst possible start for Dyche’s side.

Junior Hoilett and Doyle then fired shots just wide on the charge as Rangers sensed blood.

But gradually Burnley settled and found a foothold, with Michael Kightly’s free kick needing a vital head from Richard Dunne to deny Sam Vokes.

And 25 minutes in the Clarets were level, as Ings struck in deadly fashion.

4 points off a team who were odds-on for promotion at the start of the season and I feel cheated it's not 6 points! Come on you Clarets smiling smiley

QPR didn't look that great really. Leicester are Champs, without a doubt, but QPR are likely to have a fair few more dodgy results I reckon.

I've been wrong before, mind you!

We're a lot more comfortable away from home; the reaction to some of the home results has been OTT at times even taking frustration into the equation.

Dyche is a better manager than Coyle IMO, the current squad is stronger than the promotion side. We're still very much in it.

I'm feeling a bit happier after that, the defending from set pieces has become a problem but that can be resolved. I was beginning to think we'd totally forgotten how to put the ball into the net but that knack has returned, and there was even a goal from a Kightly centre.

Three of our next 6 home games are against Forest, Derby and Leicester, it's in our own hands.

What would prompt such an outburst? Got anyone in mind?

I'd say Dyche is best Clarets manager in my lifetime (since early 70's) and although the current squad is stronger not sure they're as skillful/flair

A cracking, exciting game that was. Disappointed with the lack of basic defending from corners, as that something weve been pretty good on for most of the season. But the second half we showed just how good we can be. Very encouraging.
Ive been offline for a few days, so just catching up on stuff.
From what ive read so far, Kightly's not got much plaudits. Admittedly he was a little frustrating first half, but not at all bad. Second half was terrific. I think he could potentially be the catalyst for us to crack on now, if he can keep that form up. Here's hoping.

I'd say Dyche is best Clarets manager in my lifetime

Nowt wrong with changing your mind I suppose, but are you the same ClaretandGreen who said on April 29th,

" Dyche is not the man to take BFC forward"

And on May 5th,

"I personally think we are going nowhere with Dyche"

And on May 8th,

"Half the squad leaving, no money to spend on replacements, and a manager who imho is not up to the quality required to rebuild the super clarets all i can see for next season is a 9month long relegation battle."

And on May 12th,

"If he wants Millwall job I'd say let him have it. We need a manager who loves the club, and has a history with it"

And on May 25th, on expectations for this season,

"Bottom after 6 games, 2 0-0 draws and 4 1-0 defeats, Dyche sacked coz he's too defensive"

And on June 25th,

"OMG what are the numptys in the boardroom doing to my club. I've followed BFC from top of the Football League down to the basement and near oblivion, back up again to the prem. Now it looks like we're on the way down again. First a Manager who doesn't have a clue about attacking flare, then use up £30m+ of prem money on nothing, then let best players go for nowt or a pittance. Dyche is the new John Bond, and the board don't have a clue. If we're not very very careful I foresee admin, followed by back 2 back relegations, maybe even following Stockport into Conference."

And on August 4th,

"We, unfortunately have no chance of signing anyone of Sharps quality. I think we'll be lucky to keep hold of Danny Ings. I honestly haven't felt this pessimistic about a season since the mid 80's when Bond, Benson et al were trying to destroy the club"

Also on August 4th,

"I cant understand why everyone is so optomistic. We will finish in bottom 3 with Bournemouth & Barnsley"

Now now BC that was uncalled for. Glass houses and such.
The general gist of Freds comments I would go along with. However this season ends you would have to say Dyche has surpassed what we realistically could have hoped for, I for one am impressed.Glass half full CW glass half full. That Ingles strike was something else.
We are in with a chance and that's a miracle.

I disagree Brian, it's entirely justified imo. We can all be wrong and I'll admit I can post as much nonsense on here as anyone, and I've had it pointed out to me on many occasions, and we can all make snap judgements in the heat of the moment that can make us seem foolish later. But this wasn't a snap judgement, a one off comment, C@G spent all the close season continually moaning and whingeing about Dyche, as you can see from the selection of his posts above. He's entitled to post his opinion and no one objected at the time, that's what the msgboard is for after all.

If he wants to spend the entire summer continually attacking Dyche that's his prerogative, fair enough, but then to post a few months later that he's the best manager we've had in his lifetime is laughable imo.

Best to remember if you're going to continually post a strongly held view over a long period, and then post the completely opposite view a few months later, that there's a search facility, I've been caught out with it before and no doubt will be again, that's life on a msgboard, you have to live with it.

I was one who had doubts about Dyche and our prospects this season.

I'm loving Dyche and the squad making me look pretty damn foolish :-)

"A truth’s initial commotion is directly proportional to how deeply the lie was believed. It wasn’t the world being round that agitated people, but that the world wasn’t flat. When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker a raving lunatic."

"The ideal tyranny is that which is ignorantly self-administered by its victims. The most perfect slaves are, therefore, those which blissfully and unawaredly enslave themselves."

Same here Longsider but after the tripe played for most of the second half of last season it was hard not to see a tough season ahead.

As Saturday showed we are a good team and in with a real chance. Bar a disastrous run of defeats we should be looking at the minimum of a play off spot.

Just hope we don't meet our dear neighbours in the play offs like was predicted last week.

Our neighbours will not get into the play-offs,so no worries there .... (I hope that statement doesn't come back to haunt me ) [:wor kid:]
