Burnley 3 Millwall 1

By Burnley FC
February 8 2014

Burnley roared back into second spot and established a new post-war record with a stunning comeback win over Millwall.

A Danny Ings double and Dean Marney screamer cancelled out Martyn Woolford’s shock opener for the Lions to extend the Clarets proud unbeaten home run to 19 games

That 11-month sequence beat the previous post-War record of 18 games, achieved in 1973 and the 1956/67 campaign.

But more importantly, it took Sean Dyche’s history boys back above Queens Park Rangers into an automatic promotion spot and 12 points clear of seventh-placed Ipswich

And the only blot on an otherwise perfect day was a first half penalty miss from Ings that would have provided the former Bournemouth striker with his first senior hat-trick.

Burnley were unchanged from the side that impressed at QPR last weekend.

And on a day when the wind was swirling around a drizzly Turf Moor, it was Millwall who almost took first advantage of the gusty conditions.

Scott Malone fired in a hopeful cross from the left that caught a gust and Tom Heaton was forced to tip over at his near post.

The Clarets settled though and in the 19th minute a raid down the right saw Michael Kightly pick out Sam Vokes with a delightful cross that the Welshman headed narrowly over on the charge.

It was quickly apparent Millwall were happy to sit in and look to pick off Burnley on the break.

But from a free kick in the 26th minute, the Lions grabbed the lead as a free kick was only headed clear to the edge of the box, where Woolford gleefully smashed home on the volley.

However, the lead lasted just two minutes as Ings levelled with another sparkling strike to add to his collection.

Michael Kightly headed Kieran Trippier’s ball down the line infield, where the Clarets striker turned his marker and fired a shot high into the roof of the net past a startled Stephen Bywater, with the aid of a slight deflection.

Leicester still losing at home to Watford, 1-2. Still, I expect them to get one or two before FT.

A much need three points there, well done Clarets (Sm152)

Leicester seem to have a knack of scoring in the dying minutes, hey ho though it is 2 points dropped for them.

Well done the clarets. (Sm152) two points gained on Jammy Lester ,also a big thanks to the Lashers for conjuring a late equaliser against the florists to make the gap between us a bit bigger ..

Sounds like Bywater had an absolute stormer for them in the nets.

We had 22 shots today.

A big, big 3 points for us that, great stuff.

And Blackpool's late equaliser against Little Billy's mob was just fantastic.

It's nice to have other results go our way, especially against him.

To say we apparently had 23 shots today I thought we had more attempts in last two games.

Never felt in any trouble yesterday even when we went behind.

Good to have 4 attacking options on the bench for the first time in yonks.

To be able to sub off both strikers & replace them with options from the bench in the same game is a very pleasing situation to be in smiling smiley

I didn't think we had 23 shots, and I didn't think Bywater had a stormer, he did OK but didn't exactly play out of his skin. Maybe I fell asleep and missed some of the game.
