Arsenal 3 Burnley 0

By Burnley FC
November 1 2014

Battling Burnley kept Arsenal at bay for over an hour before two quickfire goals finally broke their resistance. The Clarets faced a first half barrage from the Gunners and had Tom Heaton to thank for two great saves from Alexis Sanchez.

But the Chilean, who cost a reported £30m, finally got his revenge with a firm header 21 minutes from time.

And within 60 seconds Luke Chambers added a second to further ease the growing tension inside the Emirates.

Man of the match Sanchez then wrapped up the points in stoppage time with a class finish.

Burnley were restricted to half chances throughout, with Danny Ings a whisker away from adding to last week's goal early in the second half.

The Clarets made two changes, with Dean Marney returning to midfield after a four-match absence with a hamstring injury, and Marvin Sordell preferred in attack to Lukas Jutkiewicz.

And it was a tight start by the Clarets, who operated with Ings sitting just off Sordell.

Ings and George Boyd we're heavily involved as the visitors broke after nine minutes, but finally Arsenal clears their lines.

But the patient Arsenal build up play almost paid dividends soon after when England striker Danny Welbeck played a quick one-two and danced across the box, only for a retreating Kieran Trippier to block his goalbound effort.

There were Arsenal appeals for a penalty midway through the half when Boyd, booked earlier for a foul on Santi Cazorla, inexplicably raised an arm and made contact from a right wing corner.

Vokes or Jutkiewicz for Sordell and that's the best 11 put out since the 70s.

Please Boyd right, Armfield left

Half time and how lucky are we still to be level? Arsenal are so impressive going forward and we are so impressed we keep giving them the ball back. We cannot be faulted for effort but we are doing less chasing down the ball and playing much deeper. I would swap Boyd for Chalobah now.

Let's be honest that could have been a cricket score! Wud say we played to our absolute maximum but eventually just couldn't cope. However strangely happier with today's result/performance than last week!?!
Maybe it's because I expected a tubbing today

Not a surprise result getting beat with the money rich Arsenal..the most surprising thing for me was not conceding until, the seventieth minute..

I am expecting nothing less than a win next week against Hull ..It will be a hard game but a winnable one and one we need to win to kick start our season and give us some confidence ..

Again, I'll disagree with that.

It's the most comfortable I've felt since the Sunderland clash.

Put all the crosses in they want in the first half, they had no height to finish them with, quite predictable and ran out of ideas.

Then we came out and owned the first 10/15 mins, we needs to score then.

On 60 mins my mate asked if I would take a draw, not on your life the way the game was going ad the crowd was turning.

Then Duff balls' up and lets that really short one score a header, the think that was so easy in the first half.

The next two goals were as a result of the first.

Keane in next weekend, Jutkiewicz in too.

We go again smiling smiley

Was between Duff and Trip from memory, he squwezed between them.

That's down to Duff for me, it's his job.

I was right on Mee the other week and I think we will se Duff on the bench next weekend.

Jutkiewicz back in though, can understand why he played Sordell against those stiffs today though, certainly after last weekend when Jagielka was the first player to win the war with Jutkiewicz.

One of the poorest visiting teams we've seen in a long, long time, with close to no threat up front. A comfortable win for us despite clearly not firing on all cylinders.

I'd rate your chances of staying up at about 0.0001. It's obvious you don't belong in the Prem. Enjoy the rest of the season... if you can.

Belong in the Prem - odd ... as we earned the place fair and square, oh, and please excuse us for not having the finances to 'Buy' wins from the likes of 35m Sanchez et al.... so allowing us to compete somewhat more evenly in this big business dirty money match fixing gambling syndicate... illusion of a U.K football league.

The luck we're having this season we'll batter Hull for 85mins without scoring then they'll get 2. Roll-on a fit Vokes coming back.... Ings needs him and so do the rest of the squad,

And if you can only manage three goals against our rag-bag collection of average Championship players and PL rejects then you can forget about winning the league. Arsenal do look a better team than United though, I'll give you that....but for how long ?

Gotta agree, Arsenal and their manager are possibly the biggest laughing stock in football...Leeds, Cardiff, Rovers and Blackpool aside.

Over a decade Arsenal beat them for being a laughing stock.

That big, boring, awful (but still packed stadium), all that money and history and all they effectively do is compete in the PL -Arsenal are no different to, lets say Villa, a normal, boring Club who nothing ever happens to....they just survive, albeit at the top end of the surviving pack rather than the bottom end (like Villa etc), winning a few more names.

Arsenal FC - the nobody of the 'big Clubs'.

No idea, I assume Arsenal? Would have guessed Wigan in a quiz, but I assume Arsenal did.

Think Villa won it in the last decade too though?

They really are the top of the also rans, youve the genuine big punchers (MC, MU and Chelsea), youve the usual 4/5 scrubbers at the bottom..then a list of also rans who nothing ever happens to.

Its that large section of 12/12 middle Clubs I would hate to have grown up supporting over any other of the 92. Almost, almost pointless.

If you look at the last decade, the Title, FA Cup, League Cup, European Cup and UEFA Cup.

Youve the genuine big hitters United and Chelsea on 9 trophies, City on 4 and Liverpool on 3.

Arsenal, bless them, youre right, theyve won 1 along with the equally boring Spurs....Portsmouth, Swansea, Wigan and Birmingham have managed the same too smiling smiley

Arsenal, Spurs...and add Everton, Newcastle, Villa, Sunderland and West Ham = just there to make the numbers up.

The rest of us are just PL overachievers, involved in promotions/relegations (or at least scraps) on a regular basis.

No idea where Arsenal are in the table but I would give me a +1/-1 and ill predict they will finish 4th now.

Aston Villa last won the FA Cup in 1957.

Arsenal were in the Champions League final in 2006. I think - and I stand to be corrected here - they've got the longest record of continuous Champions League qualifications of any club in Europe. It's certainly the longest in England by quite some way.

Under their current manager they've won 3 league titles, 5 FA Cups, 5 Charity Shields and on the Forbes rich list they are ranked as the 5th richest club in the world. I'm not sure where Aston Villa are on that list.

Re: Arsenal 3 Burnley 0

Im just going off the last 10 Seasons, thats what im basing the trophy haul on and comparing it to the big 4.

Honestly, just look at it, they are also rans - level with Spurs and the others I listed.

Thats a 10 year record, even Newcastle, Sunderland and West Ham of 'the bore list' I mentioned have had relegations/promotions (i.e something actually happening).

Arsenal, Spurs, Villa, Everton - zzzzzzz.

Ive not included Charity Shields (friendlies) in the workings...just the 5 tournaments, over the last 10 Seasons.

I can only assume the other 7 trophies you say Wenger has won came over a decade ago when they were relevant...theyre not anymore, at all.

No idea on the Champions League qualifying thing, but, again, its not relevant...they qualify to play in the Premiership every Season by not getting anywhere near relegation, but theyre not good enough to even be considered getting close to being winners.

Preston got in the Play Offs by finishing 3rd-6th for several Seasons, meant nothing when we won the Play Offs and got promoted at the first attempt.

Not even a dig at Arsenal, personally I neither like/dislike more than I do any other London Club, however, they never do anything, its down to having the wrong Manager, he's happy being average.

In truth, I wasn't going to post until I saw manhug's ridiculous comments upthread suggesting Burnley could have got something out the game.

Just a reminder, we had 32 shots on goal vs 2, and 18 corners kicks vs 1. In fairness, we've seen more threat at the Emirates from lower league teams.

What ridiculous comments? That I watched it all and by half time, despite all the pressure I didn't feel worried? Well I didn't, there's a difference between having pressure and actually doing something with it (the main reason your lot fail time and time again to be honest). Then opening 10/15 mins of the second half, all of a sudden we had possession and your God-awful 'support' starting to groan.

Our possession soon died, as expected, after 10/15 mins, back to your possession, still didn't feel threatened you were that short of ideas, then came the opener with 19 mins to play when out centre half embarrassingly let that short lad score a header. Once that went in it was game over and inevitable a couple more would follow, purely on the back of the first killing the game.

Anyway, glad I got you to pop over, nice few hits for our small town forum. No need to bother coming back again though, will let you get on with being average.

Ta da.

Seeing as the score was 0-0 after 70 minutes and your team was showing a remarkable ineptitude in front of goal, I don't think it was unreasonable for MH to speculate that we might, miraculously, get something out of the game. Hardly something for you to have a hussy fit over though surely ?

And you need to check your facts as well mate, we had six shots on goal, not two. And I wouldn't be in such a hurry to talk about 32 shots on goal when you only managed to hit the back of the net with only three of them. Maybe there's a clue there as to why Chelsea fans will be laughing at you again at the end of the season, like they always do.(Sm14)

Boro at home last Season, BC.

The most one sided game I've ever been to in terms of what I saw and the stats.

We lost 1-0, of only 5 loses that Season.

A squad out of its depth in the Premier League, suffering from an almost total lack of summer investment. It's all getting very sad indeed at Turf Moor.

The obvious cliché for fans of clubs such as Burnley is to 'enjoy the ride', but there isn't much to enjoy about expecting your team to lose every week

You're just an anomaly in the Prem, like Wigan were. And while they certainly overstayed their welcome, you're going straight back down and won't be missed.

Must be sick of following is 'also ran' of a joke club in their graveyard, fake football 'ground' and 'happy with being average' manager.

Just a sad lad/lass.

Probably bent.

No wonder beating us meant so much to them.

Struggle to get in the top 4 at this rate.

I think we might have seen the back of him now, probably on suicide watch. £80m spent this summer and just four wins from eleven games, behind Southampton, Swansea and West Ham in the league. In fact definitely suicide watch.

Bye bye you cockney turd, been nice talking to you.(Sm150)

Now now...nowt wrong wi cockneys. Salt and Pepper was an individual who did not represent anyone but his herself and with those views is probably finding it hard to find new friends having recently left the loonie bin.It was our misfortune of it being his/her first attempt at reintegration into society.

Have they lost again?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

What a waste of time and money it is watching them. Like watching a film that doesn't end.

Interesting when you check the league table, they're 12 points behind Chelsea and 10 points in front of us. £80m spent and the mighty Gunners have ended up with a team closer to Burnley than the Chelsea team they were supposed to be challenging.

No wonder the fruitcake has disappeared.(Sm13)

Laughing stock.

We know what we are, we are a Championship Club who flirt with League One and Premier League every now and then...we have things happen...a real town club. Leicester, Palace and the like are the same.

United, City, Chelsea, Liverpool - the big 4 - win trophies.

Then youve the stale, deadwood. Topped by Arsenal and propped up by Villa, to whom NOTHING ever happens, bar 1 cup win in 10 years (something Swansea, Pompey, Birmingham and the like manage too).

Like the lad in the video says, its that average manager they have, he's been having Arsenal off for 10 years now and they still dont realise..he's happy being average.

That other belmer in the video too - example of a Premiership fan that, replica shirt, scarf, hate etc and drinking from his Arsenal FC 'Team' water bottle. What a nob.
