Ashley Barnes scored the all-important goal as Burnley earned an outstanding victory over fifth-placed Southampton. Barnes latched onto a loose ball and forced it into the net with the aid of a deflection on 73 minutes for his second winning goal of the season.
Earlier, Tom Heaton made a stunning penalty save from Dušan Tadić to set the tone for the victory on the hour mark.
And the Clarets moved out of the bottom three with their third win of the Premier League campaign to bring some Christmas cheer to Turf Moor.
Burnley were unchanged from the team that fell to their first defeat in five matches away at Queens Park Rangers last weekend.
Meanwhile, Southampton manager Ronald Koeman handed a start to 18-year-old midfielder Jake Hesketh.
The Clarets began the game on the front foot, with Danny Ings twice going close inside the opening three minutes.
First, seconds into the contest, he couldn’t quite keep his header down after good work from George Boyd on the right.
Moments later, Ings linked up with Barnes just outside the box before turning sharply towards goal and seeing his shot fly just wide of the post.

I am coming to the belief that Sean Dyche may be the best Burnley manager I will see at Turf Moor in my lifetime and when you consider that includes Harry Potts that says a lot. I do hope we will manage to extend his contract - by about 5 years - he is worth more to us than a 10 million pound striker and also the club needs to buy him some rainproof clothing and thermals!
