Brilliant Burnley ended Manchester City’s hopes of a record-breaking 10th straight win in a sensational second half comeback at The Etihad

The Clarets looked down and out at half time after title-chasing City, with goals from David Silva and Fernandinho, looked set to close the gap on leaders Chelsea to a point. My best hope for today was we could avoid a massively demoralising thrashing - at 2 down I could not see us getting anything other than just that.
This group just keep on surprising and keep getting better - we might just stay up you know, if we can get to the end of the season with squad and manager in place

Who said we can't compete with the big boys - that Burnley aren't Premier League material - and as all can see, that's not just a fancy plucked from today's game.
All that remains, is to make the chances count, for the opposition to realise, that like today, a couple of goals against and we're not out of it.

Biggest surprise of all for me was in injury time, I was preparing to hide behind the settee as City went for the winner but it never happened, they struggled to even get the ball out of their own half. A very impressive, professional job in those last five minutes.

SD'S interview was interesting. I was cursing the "keep it in the corner" tactic for the last three minutes and SD apparently was screaming at them to get it in the box as well!

And there was me shouting get it down by the corner flag and keep it there. Oldest trick in the book, I grew up watching Jimmy Mac do it. And it works, best time-wasting ploy there is and all perfectly legal, the ref can't add any more time on for it.

It isn't time wasting though BC - ball is in play and the opposition are able to come to try and claim it - it can though run the clock down quite nicely :-)

Same thing though LS isn't it, time wasting, running down the clock. I hate it when others do it to us, but so pleased to see how intelligently we 'ran down the clock'. They didn't give City a sniff in those last five minutes, very impressive.

Not really BC, time easing is taking forever over throws, goal kicks, corners, rolling around 'injured' - this is different altogether - and I hate it when it happens to us to but it's part of the game and pretty much always has been.

We were pros in the championship and now we seem to be doing it in the prem. I thought this season would be an education with SD in charge and it surely is. We only need to marginally increase our goal tally and we will be in with a shout of staying in the prem for another go.

Exactly the same thing for me LS, they both have exactly the same objective, running the clock down while denying your opponents a goal-scoring opportunity. I was thinking "get it down by the corner flag, waste some time". There are many ways of wasting time, this is the best one, perfectly legal and you don't get time added on for it.
Anyway it's nice to have a chat with you in Pedants Corner again, we haven't been here for a while, I've missed it.

Some people may be satisfied with a point but the way things were at that stage it was two points dropped. Plus I have seen a number of teams mugged by breakaway goals when the they lost the keep it in the corner tactic.

They were finished, there was another two points to play for when we got 3-4 corners, free kicks or similar in injury time.
We took them all to the corner and, as always, lost the ball straightaway anyway not only losing a chance to win each time, handing possession over each time but giving them that instant boost that they could launch it.
City were spent, we shouldn't have played that injury time to win.
Only criticism of the WHOLE performance and I rarely criticise do I? But I disagree with all the praise above for wasting time, that was poor decision making IMO.
And I ain't saying this for a bite as I really can't be bothered arguing the point further like I sometimes enjoy.

The only bit of time wasting/running the clock down I wasn't happy about was that last free kick. There were 5-10 seconds to go we should have lumped it into box see if we could get that 3rd. They were panicking big style.

The players out on the pitch knew what the situation was better than any of us sat in the stands or sat on their backsides watching on TV, and they decided to keep the vital point they'd earned, and they decided on the best way to do it.

We left planet earth when we got promoted BC.We now fly in the pathway of the winds of the gods and wanting the winner is where we are at.....but like you say that draw was incredible....could taste that winning goal though.

The was we played injury time was nothing short of disgraceful, and weak.
A game panning out the way that one did leads to only one side winning, if any.
City players knew it, their fans did too, they were convinced they were gonna lose until we bottled it and let them off.
They should have believed in themselves, anyone else would have.
We could have won.

By the way BC, not seen anybody moaning that we didn't get three, just moaning that we bottled trying to get three.

Neither could I mate, I had this horrible feeling that we might be lumping the ball into their box in a naive attempt to score another, inevitably giving the ball straight back to City and massively increasing their chances of scoring a late winner. Instead we were extremely professional, we had our foot on their necks, we kept it there, and took the point we deserved.
Surprised that after last season you think you know better than those lads out there how to get a result from a game of football. Trust them mate, they know what they're about, you should know that by now.

Some of our fans might be as high as kites Brian, but fortunately the players still have their feet on the ground, and made sure that what we have we hold. If you want any evidence that we're capable of staying up this season just re-run those last five minutes away from home against the League Champions. Came of age those lads in that five minutes, proper PL team now, closed a game out against the best team in the country without breaking sweat, sitting in their half even. We stay in this division while we have that mentality. Most impressive five minutes of the season for me, and for the players as well I expect. I don't think they'll worry too much what gung-ho, let's throw caution to the winds and go for the winner, fantasists might think.

We gave them the ball back anyway, but without trying to score when they were terrified, this giving them a sigh of relief.
Believe me, they were glad when we ran the ball to the corners, they were happy with a point, which usually tells you the other side shouldnt be.
Still, depends if you're a winner or not. Depends what you expect of yourself and how proud you are etc.

Funny thing, I've read every report I could find on the game, I've listened to every broadcast report I could, and not once anywhere from those experienced reporters and journalists did I find any criticism of our tactics in those last five minutes, and I wouldn't because we got it spot on. You're idea mate that we should have thrown caution to the wind and gone for the winner is bizarre, maybe Chelsea or United might have done it but not one team in our position in the league would have gone for it, like us they'd have taken the pragmatic, sensible option. In fact you know what you're advocating is bizarre, so bizarre you were very reluctant to even post it in the first place weren't you, be honest.
