Burnley 3 Sheffield Wednesday 1

By Burnley FC
September 12 2015

The Clarets recorded a third straight win in the league, beating Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 at Turf Moor in Sean Dyche's 50th win as Burnley boss.  David Jones' classy first half opener was cancelled out by Atdhe Nuhiu, before two goals in the last 11 minutes from Matt Taylor and record signing Andre Gray sealed Burnley's win.

Dyche named an unchanged side that beat Bristol City 2-1 a fortnight ago, meaning Gray made his home debut for the club.

And it was the perfect start for the Clarets, who took the lead in the seventh minute.

Jones was fouled just outside the box as he spun his marker and the midfielder dusted himself off before perfectly finding the top corner with the resulting free-kick.

However, after two chances there were two goals as Wednesday hit straight back!

Daniel Pudil’s superb ball into the mix was clinically put away by Nuhiu, the towering striker’s header flew past a helpless Heaton.

A frantic moment in the box almost put the Clarets back in front on the half hour mark.

Scott Arfield’s shot from the edge of the area was scuffed and fell to Michael Keane, but the Clarets defender and current top scorer couldn’t convert the chance.

Seemingly we've been second-best for most of the game but, you know, who cares?

Good 3 points that even though it was unlikely for large periods of the game. (Sm152)

Playing dreadfully and winning; I'll take that any time.

Three really good goals, impressed with Gray's particularly.

Well we won, we can surely only get better, and we created plenty of chances while only playing well for the last 20 minutes, can't think of anything else positive to say. Wednesday fans must have gone back over the Pennines thinking 'how the **** did we lose that'.

Great result. Wednesday have been a bit of a bogey side for us. Nice to win playing ugly.

Never mind Derby, we need to up it for Tuesday night, we'll not keep getting away with performances like today's.

Isn't that the sign of a good side, winning when playing poorly?

We will need to improve but that's 3 wins in the bounce.

3 on the bounce and we haven't played well yet.

A game that showed just how astonishing football can be. With 15 minutes to go a Wednesday win looked certain. And then the game is turned upside down and we go home wondering how the hell did we do that laughing and chortling.
Gray was terrific. Darikwa is like lightning.
And the rest even though being battered never lay down.
Wonder if Joey will get 10 minutes on Tuesday?
Boyd and or Kightly must surely be on borrowed time if and when Barton comes in.

According to Dyche last night Dave, Joey is still some way off being fit enough, it didn't sound like he would be in his plans for Tuesday, but who knows, Dyche can be very cagey about that sort of stuff, he doesn't give much away.

At the moment we look miles away from where we were two years ago, but I keep thinking about United last season, they weren't the United of old, in fact at times they were awful, rubbish, but they still finished 4th. We aren't playing well but we're still 5th, watch out when we do hit our straps.

Ah is that what it was?

I did wonder, because the away allocation now seems to be down to about 2,500, strange given that stand can accommodate 4,000.

I mean I know we're doing well but over 17,000 is more than I'd expect at this stage of the season.

14,800 home fans, how many STs have we sold for this season, anyone know ? Possibly their much criticised marketing ploy has worked to certain extent, and we haven't lost too many.
