Start spreading the news… Burnley strikers Andre Gray and Sam Vokes are beginning to forge a deadly partnership!  The Clarets strikers were both on target at the New York Stadium as Burnley saw off a spirited second half fightback from Rotherham.  

Gray gave Burnley a deserved half time lead with a smart finish in the eighth minute - a lead they preserved until Grant Ward levelled with a sublime strike 15 minutes from time. 

But Burnley’s wonderful response, after being second best after the break, was a priceless winner nine minutes from time from Vokes, pouncing from close range for his third goal of the season to sign off for his dates with destiny with Wales in style. 

Sean Dyche made two changes to the starting line-up for the first-ever visit to the New York Stadium. 

Gray returned in attack for Rouwen Hennings, who missed out after his wife went into labour, while Joey Barton replaced Michael Kightly in midfield for his first start. 

And eight minutes in, following a bright start, the Clarets were ahead. 

Ben Mee won a towering header from Michael Duff’s free kick and George Boyd controlled on his chest and lobbed the ball over a static defence for Gray to race onto and coolly chip the advancing keeper. 

 It was precisely the start Burnley would have wanted to quieten a buoyant Rotherham side seeking a third straight victory. 

United’s response was a swirling 25-yard free kick from Tony Andreu that whistled wide of Tom Heaton’s right hand post. 

But Burnley always carried a threat coming forward, and Tendayi Darikwa, fresh from opening his account last weekend, soon tested Lee Camp with a deflected effort from distance that the Millers keeper found too hot to handle. 

And just after the half hour mark, the visitors came closer to a second when Sam Vokes let fly from 30 yards and Camp was thankful to see the ball thump back off the face of the crossbar.

Rotherham with a caretaker manager as well.. Bollox chops starting his first game and Gray back for the clarets..

Much better performance so far at least Barton finds his men, Gray and Vokes both looking sharp, deserve to be in the lead so far.

Hes absolutely bossed the midfield,one of his passes was sublime.. Vokesy was very unlucky ,would have been a great goal.. Hope we can keep it going and add another goal to make it a bit more comfortable.think Rotherham will improve in the second half,so we need another one

Great first half, had a bit of trouble second half but realistically better team and a good 3 points, Joey was so imprtant though cannot afford to lose him.

We have to hope that Gray stays fit for the season. Joey impressive already, Jones looked better for playing alongside him.

No exaggeration to say that was the best we have played this season.
Two actual midfielders in the centre and look a lot better.
They never looked like scoring before. An absolute screamer was there only chance.

Barton was class and can only get better,same applies to Vokesy and Gray,provided they get the service and we dont start playing across the park football like in the second half ..with the side we have if we keep going forward we will score more goals than we concede..

Thught Heaton should have kept their goal out ,bit of a soft goal to concede really..

3 points on the road, great team performance and we are getting stronger.

What a season ahead to look forward too.

Joey will take tough hits all season long and dish out a few along the way.

A solid midfield and class up front;
Joey and Grey signings of the Championship!

Thought Jones was excellent today. Best game of the season so far from him.
A good performance all round where we looked comfortable throughout.
Great to see Armfield back playing wide, and Joey's constant movement.
Still room for improvement - Boyd and Mee need to step it up a level.

We've still got more to come I reckon. With Marney close as well it's starting to look like a promotion team this one.

Fairly cynical tackles on Barton at times.
