Leroy Fer’s late strike inflicted a first league defeat on Burnley in eight months to decide the Premier League curtain raiser.

The Clarets were pushing hard for a second half winner when Fer struck in the 83rd minute after Tom Heaton had saved Fernando Llorente’s deflected header. For their return to the top flight Burnley’s starting 11 had a familiar look to it, with David Jones for Joey Barton the only change from the triumphant title-winning end to last season at Charlton Athletic. Well its nearly here. Im starting to look forward to it now.
Could look at it as being a good time to play Swansea as theyve just sold their two best players this week. Mind you, theyve just broke their transfer record for a centre forward ive never heard of today.
Our starting line-up should be predictable, the team picks itself really. I suppose its a question of whether Iceland starts instead of Armfield.
Anyone know if the game's sold out ?

I doubt we could have a more advantageous game to start the season and I have no doubt we will secure 3 points from it. A settled confident team with 2 cracking good forwards and a sound defence, what could possibly go wrong?

I'm going with very low expectations, it's not the hope that kills me, that's what keeps me going, it's the disappointment. So a decent performance, one point or three, and I'll be a happy bunny.
Last season we turned picking up points while playing poorly into an art-form. Will it work at this level, I'm intrigued to find out. It seemed to depend on us grafting and keeping it tight, while the opposition missed sitters and Gray put one in at the other end. I never thought we could win the league like that but we did, so maybe it'll work again. It's to be hoped so, because I don't know what else we've got.

Well, me, for one. I fully expected us to line up with what played at Charlton:
Heaton
Lowton Keane Mee Ward
Boyd Marney Barton Arfield
Vokes Gray
I always expected, barring any injuries, that to be the side to start the season, as they should regardless of whoever comes in. Anybody new to start on the bench, at best, until changes are needed.
Barton leaving means there will be one change, which I assumed would be a new player, but it'll be Jones and then it will be the new player when he comes. But had Barton still been here then that would be the side and I don't care if Hendricks, Stephens, Flanagan or anyone else were available.
For what it's worth I think you'll be wrong and there will be a new signing starting. I think Iceland man will start ahead of Boyd. But he shouldn't do.

Quite a few pundits tipping Swansea for relegation as they've lost their two best players, the bookies have us a shorter price to win tomorrow than them as well.
My worries have drifted away, like the early mist over Pendle on a hot summer's morning. Easy peasy then, onwards and upwards, three points in the bag.

Not a good enough result against a very mediocre Swansea outfit .. I expected at least a draw out of this..hopefully things can only get better as its early days yet..

Nothing surprising about that result, it's what happens when you put out a Championship team in the PL. We tried it two years ago and it didn't work then, God knows why anyone would think it was going to be different this time.

It was a similar type of game as in the championship last year, which we would have won.
Only real difference - they took one of their few chances, and we didnt (their keeper was good though) .
Suppose we'll have to get used to that bit of extra quality in this division again.
I was reasonably encouraged by our second half performance. Gray looked sharp, im sure goals will come. Its quite obvious where we need improving, and hopefully that will be addressed.

To be honest I don't think we're far off. Flanagan for Lowton, who was way out of his depth, Defour for Jones, a pacy winger and we'll be OK.
The biggest concern for me would be Iceland, who left Lowton completely exposed when he came on. Lowton was struggling as it was, but Iceland just hung him out to dry, if he can't defend better than he did yesterday then I don't see a place for him in the team.
