Chelsea 3 Burnley 0

By Burnley FC

Chelsea kept up their 100% start to the season with a convincing victory over the Clarets at a sweltering Stamford Bridge. Goals from Eden Hazard and Willian bookended a first half that saw Sean Dyche's men on the back foot.

Tom Heaton made two terrific saves from a rampant Hazard and a third from Diego Costa as Chelsea looked to extend their lead.

And as they enjoyed more possession in the final quarter of the game, Burnley could find no way through the Blues defence on a tough day in the capital.

And two minutes from time, Victor Moses wrapped up all three points with a simple finish.

The Clarets named the same starting line-up from the magnificent win against Liverpool.

But within eight minutes they were chasing the game.

After losing possession in the final third, Chelsea broke quickly and Hazard found the bottom corner form outside the area after racing forward and cutting inside onto his right foot.

Six minutes later, there was almost double trouble as the unmarked Belgian went for placement from Willian’s deep cross, only for a perfectly placed Ben Mee to clear off the line.

And from the resulting corner, former Clarets loanee Gary Cahill – making his 200th appearance for the Blues – volleyed acrobatically just wide.

The Clarets were struggling to get any foothold in the game against the blue tide.

And nine minutes from half time they were indebted to skipper Heaton for a fine low stop from Diego Costa after more trickery on the by-line, this time from Oscar, created the opening.

Not a single effort on target. Gray barely had a touch all game.
Well beaten, but cant really have a go as it was only to be expected, we know our limits, and they are likely to challenging for the title.
The sad thing is, we end up with a centre half and an 18 year old kid playing as our 2 central midfielders. To be fair, O'Neill looked ok.

We did well not to concede a bagfull, thanks in the main to Heaton. First half we were mesmerised and admiring of everything Chelsea were doing. Fared a lttle better in the 2nd half, like Fred though I can't complain too much as it was expected. Agree also with Fred regarding O'Neill he looks like he could go on to do better things.

Really disappointing that - not that we were expecting to win - but the manner in which we played. With exception of Heaton and O'Neill, everyone looked like deer in headlights. Very un-Dyche like performance.

Arfield and Boyd lack pace to be effective out wide, whole midfield was dreadful until O'Neill showed up.

Anyone think we should consider signing some new players or was this just a bad day at the office?

It is sad Fred but you're being polite, if I had to say what I really think about the cretins responsible for this shambles three games into a PL season I'd get banned.

So I won't say anything, as long as no one tries to tell me we support a well run football club.

I love the American sense of humour.

Developed in the back alleys of Colne, refined in the pubs of London and brought to the climatic, brilliant vessel you see before you in the clubs of LA. All for the edification of The Longside Lounge.

Enjoy! (pearls before swine though I sometimes think).

Was Sean making a point to the board though with the players we had there at the end of the game?

Can I just say.we should be ever so pleased and proud of how the custodians of our beloved Football club are looking after the pennies so well.
How many of us go shopping and spend money like there is no tomorrow ?

Could have moved Johann the Viking inside and put Tarikwa with some pace wide right. Nothing to lose at that stage. Tarkowski in centre mid... gulp
Suspect it might well have been a statement..
Nothing masks the lack of players who can take a man on... Arfield now avoids it all costs...
