Southampton 3 Burnley 1

SAM Vokes scored Burnley’s first Premier League away goal of the season, but it was not enough to avoid defeat at Southampton. 

Former Clarets striker Charlie Austin once again proved to be a thorn in his old club’s side, scoring twice in a 3-1 win for Saints. 

But, while Burnley were offered hope of a comeback from the penalty spot in the last 20 minutes, they will rue being denied a first half penalty when the game was goalless. 

Tom Heaton was the star man in the opening 45 minutes, pulling off some stunning saves - the best of which was from a downwards Austin header in the fifth minute. 

Burnley grew into the game and went close through Vokes before a trip by Virgil van Dijk on Johann Berg Gudmundsson went unpunished. 

It was a talking point of a first half that had offered promise for the Clarets, despite Heaton having to be at his best.

Penalty decision went against us in the first half but I really don't think it would have made much difference to the end result, Heaton saved us from total embarrassment, Austin was always going to score, what on earth does Kightly bring? he was so poor, he even put a corner out of play.

Unfortunately with Defour going off it left us totally floundering, he is definitely the driving force, disappointed in Hendrick today.

I know I am stating the obvious, I have tried to stay looking at the glass half full, but Watching that performance today shows that we are really going to struggle to stay up, it will need a miracle. BC has been saying all along that we are woefully short of quality players, I have leaned towards giving what we have a chance to show us what they have got, but now I have to agree with all of BCs past comments regards lack of spending etc etc.

If you rely on one man up front ,then you are always going to be defending.. I've always agreed with BC on the boards lack of ambition in the transfer market,i hope I'm wrong,but I can see no other result this season than relegation..

Hard to disagree with any of that FC.
Didnt expect to go there and win, but the manner of the performance was really disappointing, and doesnt give much hope.
