Sean Dyche’s 200th game in charge of Burnley ended in the most dramatic of defeats as Arsenal scored the second of two injury-time penalties to kill off the Clarets in the cruelest of fashions.

Dyche looked as though he would be able to celebrate with a precious point to double Burnley’s tally away from home as his side continued their improvement away from Turf Moor with another gutsy performance. Andre Gray’s spot-kick in the 93rd-minute cancelled out Shkodran Mustafi's first goal for Arsenal as the Gunners were left hanging on after Granit Xhaka’s second-half dismissal. But Burnley’s late fightback eventually came to nothing as, for the second time this season, Arsenal grabbed the points in controversial style with virtually the last touch of the game to secure the win that lifted them to second place in the Premier League. Perhaps fittingly for his latest landmark, Dyche was able to stick with a winning formula as he selected the same side that started last Saturday’s Premier League win over Southampton. With Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Scott Arfield not ready to return, there was also no change to the substitutes’ bench as the Clarets went in pursuit of a first away league win. The scale of the task was underlined by Arsenal’s record at the Emirates Stadium where they hadn’t lost since the opening game of the season. And with the Gunners seeking a fifth successive home league win, manager Arsene Wenger also said ‘same again’ as he named the side that had won 4-0 at Swansea in their last outing. Eyeing the chance to move above Liverpool and Tottenham and within sight of Chelsea at the top of the table, Wenger’s side inevitably played with the purpose and confidence of potential title challengers. Their slick passing and movement around the penalty area made it an early test of concentration for the Clarets on the occasions they were forced to defend deep and in numbers. But it was an examination they came through impressively with Tom Heaton’s only save of the opening half hour a diving effort low to his right to keep out a curling 30-yarder from Mesut Ozil before the Clarets’ skipper made a more routine stop to hold a shot from top scorer Alexis Sanchez, who then curled an effort just wide moments before the break. I hope they deduct points for Wengers behaviour. Pushing the officials about is a step too far.

Perhaps Sean can put together a presentation, much like he did to get the Burnley job, and implore the Premier League and the FA to employ technology. Wenger's actions were deplorable, inexcusable and sent all the wrong messages. For the players, staff and fans there will always be 'grey' areas in the calling of a game, but in 2017 we need to employ technology to remove the blatantly obvious BAD/NO calls.
The game will not suffer, the 'delay' would probably not be anymore than we current experience with petulant, over-paid-brats surrounding the ref and giving him earache on every call that doesn't go there way. Technology might help stamp out this habit, and in-game review of 'theatrics/simulation' would also be useful in ensuring these offenses don't adversely influence the outcome of a game.
There is a league managers/coaches association - here's something they could get their teeth into and improve the game. Positive contribution.....go for it, Sean the pioneer, lead the way.

I also wonder how much of that extra 7 minutes actually had the ball in play. Ward had an injury, Wenger was sent to the stands (well was supposed too have) and there were 2 pens!

Good question morty. I can't be precise because of Sky showing a couple of replays that overlapped the play, but this will be accurate within 3/4 seconds either way. The ball was actually in play for 2 minutes, 22 seconds of those 7 minutes, he added 10 seconds on at the end to allow us to kick off then blew for time. So in effect, despite almost 5 minutes of the added time being lost for various stoppages, he added nothing on.
Bit of a farce really isn't it.
