Brady Ends Burnley Stay

Winger to move on after special time at Turf Moor Robbie Brady is to leave the Clarets this summer after reaching the end of his contract at Turf Moor.

 Brady – who joined Burnley as the club’s then record signing from Norwich City in January, 2017 – made 87 appearances for the Clarets.

 The Republic of Ireland international was instrumental in helping Sean Dyche’s side finish seventh in the Premier League and qualify for Europe in the 2017/18 season before suffering a serious knee injury.

 Brady returned to action after almost 11 months on the sidelines and despite not being able to enjoy many sustained runs of starting appearances, the former Manchester United and Hull City winger remained an important member of Dyche’s squad which will be playing a sixth successive season of top-flight football next term.

 Brady won’t be part of that but looks back warmly on his time as a Claret as he prepares to launch the next phase of his career in securing a move to a new club.

Shame we never got to see consistancy from him due to injuries. Definitely a talent and I for one wish him well where ever he goes. (Sm152)

The first time I saw him, just after we signed him for serious money (by our standards), I was shocked, he was trapping the ball further than I could throw my cap, and he seemed totally lacking in confidence. Whether it was a fitness issue I don't know, but after half a dozen games or so he started to look like the player I thought we'd signed, and when teamed up with Defour they posed a real attacking threat for us. Sadly injuries did for the pair of them, a real shame, for the team, the fans and Robbie himself. Good luck to him, wherever he ends up.

Unfortunately, Robbie never recovered to his former glories after that tackle by ‘Easter Island Head’.

Goodbye, sicknote.

I considered him a top signing for us at the time. Apart from the free-kick goal against Chelsea, it took some time for him to really get going but when he did it was cut short by lump head Maguire.

In one respect he did get lucky, it wasn't far off the last game he played for us, and he dashed back to tackle a United player going through on goal, possibly it was Rashford but I'm not sure, he mistimed the tackle, brought him down, and was heading for the proverbial early bath, when VAR checked for a foul by Shaw at the other end, and gave us a free kick for a foul on Berg, instead of a red card for Robbie.

He got lucky, he dodged a bullet, but with everything that went wrong for him at Burnley, you couldn't begrudge the lad one little bit of luck.
