Part 12 of our summer squad-number feature Squad numbers were introduced for the first time in the 1999/2000 season and a generation of Clarets have since put their own special mark on a particular shirt.

 Repeating a series by contributor Wallace Chadwick which ran in the on-line Turf matchday magazine during the 2020/21 season, we will be highlighting who wore what and profiling some of those who made their mark at Turf Moor.

 This instalment concentrates on number eight, a shirt worn by a couple of real crowd favourites in the shape of Robbie Blake and Dean Marney and now worn by another midfielder making his mark at Turf Moor in Josh Brownhill.

2003-05 Robbie Blake (to Jan ’05)

2005-06 Micah Hyde

2006=07 Alan Mahon

2007-10 Joey Gudjonsson

2010-18 Dean Marney

2019-20 Danny Drinkwater (to Jan ’20)

2020- Josh Brownhill (from Jan ’20)

Deano for me, never gave up on anything, DEAN MARNEY, DEAN MARNEY. (Sm152)

When I saw the list I thought it was no contest, everyone would say Robbie, then FC goes and picks Deano. Good lad was Deano, but it's Robbie for me, by a country mile.

Got to agree with you BC Robbie was a much more skillful player but my heart went with Deano because of his never say die attitude, and his one stint, I was forgetting Robbie had 2 stints.

A computer analysis would say, probably, Dean Marney. But as Stan said "ahhhh Robbie" and that goal against Man U............so it's Robbie.

Don't know what's happened to my old mate Manhug, he's no longer posting, and I don't go on't Turf any more so I never see him, so I'll put in a proxy vote on his behalf for Deano. I know he loved Dean Marney, absolutely loved him, I know for a fact he didn't have the same affection for Robbie, not at all, he didn't like him one little bit.
