Newcastle United 1 Burnley 0

A first half goal from Callum Wilson handed Newcastle United all three points and a first defeat in five Premier League matches for Burnley.

The Clarets created opportunities at St James’ Park, and had a goal ruled out for offside, but it was the North East side that claimed the win.

Burnley made two changes from the draw at Wolves, with James Tarkowski and Ashley Westwood returning to the starting line up, in place of the injured Ben Mee and Jack Cork, the latter dropping to the bench. Meanwhile, the hosts named former Claret, Jeff Hendrick, on the bench.

The first opportunity of the match fell the way of the visitors when Maxwel Cornet got on the end of a Chris Wood flick on, bearing down on goal, our number 20 struck wide.

A second chance soon followed for Sean Dyche’s side, as Johann Berg Gudmundsson carried the ball from his own half to the edge of the Newcastle penalty area, but Dwight McNeil couldn’t direct a header on target.

What a load of rubbish on Saturday, only one shot on target all game! How many more sitters is Vydra going to miss?

Totally underwhelming display that, it was Newcastle FFS, poor poor and poor again up front, nothing changes, the writing is on the wall and has been for a long time now, you cannot win games without scoring the few chances we get, and we cannot seem to do that consistently enough. I'm sorry but Vyds and Jay are not the answers.

On top of a very poor performance w e lost star man Cornet,. let us hope the injury clears up quickly.

Oh well Wert Spam up next.

Completely disagree................given time SD will convert Max into a hesitant striker and disciplined defender. Vydra and Jay are not the problem, past goals demonstrate that. I would separate our strikers from SD think and train them in killer goal spontaneity instinct. SD is a traditional tough central defender who views goals as a failure..............they can't help it poor souls.

Apparently Maxwel has posted on Instagram that the news on his injury was reassuring. Hopefully he will be back soon.

We need to string two wins together. Villa were struggling a few weeks ago and are now up into the top half of the table after a few wins.
