 Manager Sean Dyche handed Welsh international Connor Roberts his first Premier League start, whilst Josh Brownhill started for the Clarets, with Jay Rodriguez and Matej Vydra leading the line.

 Donning their blue away trim, the Clarets, backed by a loud support from Lancashire, had the first attempt on goal in the eighth minute, as Dwight McNeil nearly caught Aaron Ramsdale at his near post with a looping shot from the left channel.

 From the resulting corner, Ben Mee, on the half volley, hit the ball over the cross bar, a positive spell for the visitors.

 Arsenal’s first attack to threat Nick Pope’s goal came on the quarter hour mark when Alexandre Lacazette weaved his way through the Burnley midfield, but his effort was wayward.
