Connor Roberts had handed the Clarets a lead early on in the second half after dominating proceedings in the opening 45 minutes, and despite continuing in the same vein, visitors Stoke struck late through substitute Harry Clarke’s header to earn themselves some reward from their midweek trip to East Lancashire. Vincent Kompany made three changes from Saturday’s draw at Cardiff City as Jordan Beyer, Vitinho & Manuel Benson all started. They replaced Charlie Taylor, Ian Maatsen, and Johann Berg Gudmundsson who all began on the bench. Meanwhile, following their 4-0 defeat at home to Watford last time out, Alex Neil made two changes to his Potters side. Phil Jagielka returned alongside Tyrese Campbell, with Aden Flint & Josh Laurent losing their places. Flint was named amongst the substitutes. Prior to kick-off, both teams, their staff, and all present at Turf Moor observed a minute’s silence for those affected by the tragic events at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in Indonesia.
