On the Verge of Administration?

The last 24 hours or so have seen some very negative vibes about Burnley Football Club. Various sources have stated that the club could go into adminstration in February unless there's a major turnaround in finances.

Chief Executive Dave Edmundson held a meeting with members of the media highlighting the club's financial position. Edmundson had this to say on the club's official website:-

"We still have a financial hole to fill in February, through no fault of the Football Club, and we need to get people through those turnstiles to support us".

SKY Sports later reported that Burnley needed £250,000 to avoid administration by February but this figure was later increased to £750,000.

Local media have since reported that the club expect to have a cash shortfall in the region of £700,000 by the end of the season and as a result administration cannot be ruled out.

In simple terms the club is currently losing around £12,000 every time a game is staged at Turf Moor. The club and the bank are trying to sort out this financial mess together and are looking at ways of possibly restructuring the debts, again.

The shortfall hasn't been helped by falling attendances this season and Edmundson has again pleaded for fans to turn up for the cup game against Gillingham in a fortnight as this could prove to be a financial lifeline for the club.
