International Week

Its been an interesting week for Burnley fans this week with the international scene arousing plenty of interest.

On Tuesday we had the magnificent achievement of seeing our very own Richard Chaplow becoming the 1st ever Burnley player to play in an England Under 21 match. He came on for the last 10 minutes of the game and we can only hope this is the start of even better things to come for the local lad.

Wales beat Scotland 4-0 in Cardiff last night and whilst the headlines belonged to Rob Earnshaw i think most of us will have been pleased that former Burnley favourite Gareth Taylor scored his first goal at international level. He replaced Ryan Giggs in the 2nd half and had a goal ruled out before beating a defender for pace, i kid you not, and slamming the ball home with his right foot, i kid you not, it must have been an emotional moment for the big man as it has taken him 9 years to get the goal.

The one other interesting scoreline of the evening belonged to the impressive Greek side who beat Bulgaria 2-0. Dimitris Papadopoulous scored his first goal at international level and now has a great chance of making their 22 man squad in Portugual. No doubt that his goal will have sparked off debates over whether or not Stan Ternent was right to sell him last Summer.
