We are delighted to bring you details of the hugely awaited testimonial for Stan Ternent. The match against Manchester United will take place on the 17th August.
Burnley FC legend Stan Ternent's eagerly-awaited testimonial match will be one of the most prestigious nights of football ever staged at Turf Moor it can be revealed. The date of the game is confirmed as Tuesday, August 17 2004 ... And bring your autograph books!
The guest list for the big night reads like a Who's Who of footy heroes. Stan's great friend Sir Alex Ferguson is bringing Manchester United to play in the biggest game seen down the Turf for years. The Old Trafford superstars will play Steve Cotterill's new-look side in a tribute match no Burnley fan will want to miss.
And among the many guests of honour parading before the fans will be Ian Wright-Wright-Wright, making an emotional return to the Turf for the first time since he famously helped The Clarets win promotion to Division One! Alongside Wrighty, Burnley supporters will also get a chance to rub shoulders with Premiership giants David Moyes, Sam Allardyce and Steve Bruce while BBC TV pundit and top manager Peter Reid will also be making a guest appearance.Other famous names turning out to pay tribute to Stan include managers Dave Jones, Bobby Saxton and Paul Jewell.
Pitchside Master of Ceremonies for the whole evening will be the hilarious ex-Clarets hero Paul Fletcher and he will introduce dozens of BFC big names to supporters. The former Clarets on show for Stan will include Brian Flynn, Frank Casper, Willie Morgan, Mitchell Thomas, Steve Kindon, Ronnie Jepson, Peter Noble and many more to be announced. There will even be a special guest appearance by the legendary former Burnley scout Jack Hixon who discovered Alan Shearer, Steve Bruce, Stan himself and a whole catalogue of former Claret superstars.
The gala evening is a reward from Chairman Barry Kilby to mark Stan's service of over 10 years as a Burnley player and manager and Sir Alex was determined to mark the event by bringing his world-famous side to play BFC.
Stan is adamant that Burnley Football Club should benefit from his testimonial and organisers have ensured on his behalf that BFC will earn a substantial amount of money on the night. Barry Kilby, Dave Edmundson and Steve Cotterrill have all given their 100% backing to the game which looks set to go down as one of the most glamorous nights in recent BFC history.
Stan said: 'The whole night looks as though it's going to be fabulous. I'm flattered that football legends like Sir Alex and Wrighty are coming to support me. I'll enjoy being sat in the stands watching two great teams play a great game of football. It will be nice to be surrounded by so many of the friends I have made over the past 40 years. The committee are even giving my old pal Vinnie Jones a bell to see if he can be here too!'
The organising committee - Mark Knight, Tony Livesey, Alistair Campbell and John Evans - are also holding a Celebrity Golf Day on the afternoon of the game where amateurs can have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to play a round at Burnley Golf Club with ALL the star names mentioned above including the Premiership bosses and Ian Wright. The big match Testimonial party starts when the gates open at Turf Moor at 5pm on Tuesday the 17th of August with full pre-match entertainment followed by kick-off at 7.30pm. Tickets for all areas of the ground are priced at Adults: £16; Concessions £6.
