Our Carling Cup dream is over for another season following our defeat to Spurs at Turf Moor last night. A patched up Burnley team battled hard but class ultimately told with the visitors winning 3-0.

The injury situation had deteriorated since Saturday with Frank Sinclair and John McGreal missing the game through injury so it meant a makeshift centre half partnership of Michael Duff and loan signing Gary Cahill. The side lined up

It was a tough start to the game with Tottenham retaining plenty of possesion and creating a number of chances. Richard Duffy missed a great chance in the 29th minute when he headed wide from a Blake cross and the Clarets were made to pay 2 minutes later when Robbie Keane got on the end of a Michael Carrick through ball to give the visitors the lead. Burnley did have chances to get back in the game before half time with Paul Robinson saving well from Tony Grant and the resultant corner saw Michael Duff have a header cleared off the line.

The 2nd half saw Burnley start positively but were caught out by a swift counter attack in the 52nd minute when Robbie Keane got on the end of another through ball a few minutes later saw the goal of the game when Jermain Defoe cracked in a fantastic shot from 30 yards out to seal the game for Tottenham.
