Rochdale Reserves 4-1 Burnley Reserves

24 hours after some of the Burnley reserves had played Manchester United in the Stan Ternent Testimonial match they were out on the pitch at Rochdale. The reserves have carried on their form from the back end of last season.

To say the team were lethargic is an understatement, but Burnley fended for themselves quite well in the Second Half and the score line could have been completely different. It was no surprise however to see the Clarets second string, who were mostly the youth team who have been promoted through the ranks due to the lack of first team squad members, 14, the lowest in the new look Championship.

 

Just over 5 minutes into the second half the Rochdale side stupidly gave away a penalty and Marc Pugh converted it swiftly making it 2 goals in 2 games for the Bacup born midfielder. The game was progressing and the goal just wouldn’t come so manager Mark Yates who was looking for a point in his first game in charge of the reserves decided to change his tactics to go for the goal. Rochdale took advantage and caught Burnley on the run and neatly put away 2 goals at the start and end of stoppage time to secure the win.
