Karbassiyoon Signs

Burnley have completed the signing of Daniel Karbassiyoon. The fullback, who has just been released by Arsenal, will solve Steve Cotterill's left back problem after Mo Camara joined Celtic last week. Karbassiyoon has agreed a two year contract with the Clarets.

The American, who turns 21 in August, is no stranger to the Championship after playing 5 games for Ipswich Town last season. Karbassiyoon joined Arsenal in August 2003 originally as a striker before being converted to play on the left.

He made his debut for the Gunners in their 2-1 win at Manchester City in the Carling Cup last season when he came off the bench to score the winner. He also played in their victory over Everton in the following round and came off the bench to play in the Gunners defeat at Manchester United in the 5th Round.

He was released by Arsenal at the end of the season as he was behind Ashley Cole and Gael Clichy in the pecking order for the left back position.

“He’s a fantastic young man, is very respectful and comes highly recommended.

“With the size of our squad, it will stand him in good stead to be in our squad and hopefully he will learn from it and take his career on.

“He will be training and playing with the first team and our players and that will hopefully help him and give him more experience.”

Karbassiyoon told the official website:

“There was interest from other clubs, but I weighed all my options up and wanted to come here.

“In order to advance my career, I have to get out and start playing football and that’s what I hope to do here.”
