Jamaican Striker on Trial

Burnley have taken nineteen-year old Jamican international striker, Luton Shelton, on trial this week after impressing manager, Steve Cotterill during his visit to the United States last month.

Luton will be joining up with fellow Jamaican international players, Frank Sinclair and Micah Hyde. He's described as being fast as a hare and scared of nobody.

Luton isn't a stranger to this part of England having trained with Bolton during the close season in 2002.

Steve noticed the striker in Los Angeles while playing for Jamaica against Guatemala in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Steve told the official website:

"Luton Shelton is a boy I've been wanting to bring in for a couple of weeks now,"

"That was part of going out to America, so it's a result of that one."

"He's here now, but the only thing is a couple of weeks ago he tweaked a hamstring, so he's with the physio now for a couple of days in order for us to assess where he is and what he's up to,"

"If he's a week or 10 days away from training, there's no point in us leaving him in Jamaica when he can come over here and get what I can call quality work from our physio and a quality assessment, rather than bringing him over in 10 days time and still not knowing where he is up to."
