Clarets Are Searching for a Star - 05/10/2005
No, that’s not the footballing kind!
If you’re always the first to grab the karaoke mike, or have dreamed of being your favourite star on a show like TV’s ‘Stars In Their Eyes’, then The Clarets Trust wants to hear from you.
As part of our mission to promote Burnley Football Club within the community, the Trust is staging a ‘Stars For A Night’ competition in conjunction with Accrington Clarets, at The Stanley club in Accrington on Thursday 1st December. A share of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Pendleside Hospice at Reedley.
Budding stars (amateurs only) need to drum up support from friends and family, and each of their sponsors will receive a ticket for the show to cheer on their favourite, from their own fans’ table at the cabaret-style event. There will be a panel of celebrity judges including a famous ex-Claret, and the winner will receive a framed ‘platinum’ disc surrounded by photos of them performing the winning song. A celebrity compere (who might also ‘do a turn’!) will guarantee a party atmosphere, and there will be a raffle with prizes donated by local companies. The evening will be rounded off with a free supper, kindly provided by Phil Miller who runs the Stanley, and who is a keen Claret.
To show the amateurs how it’s done, there will be a guest appearance by locally based star Rebecca Stone (pictured), who will be Andrea Corr for the night, a role she performed in a hit musical tribute to The Corrs, which recently toured the UK. Rebecca will also be on the judging panel.
Tickets, priced at only £4 including supper, will go on general sale in November, after entrants and their sponsors have received the first allocation.
Local businesses are also being asked to get in on the act, by nominating entrants from their own staff and customers. Colour posters and entry/sponsorship forms are being distributed in the area, and are also available from the Clarets Trust by post or email. If you would like to help promote the event, or would like to enter, please send us an email.
We would also like to hear from companies wishing to donate raffle prizes in return for a year’s free advertising on the Clarets Trust website.
So, if you’re a budding Madonna or Robbie Williams, or know of one, get in touch now!
