Third Year Apprentice, Marc Pugh scores his 15th goal of the season in the Youth Alliance. This means they are undefeated in the opening nine games of the season........
Pugh Does it Again!
On Saturday the Youth Team played their ninth game in the Youth Alliance this season, with an away game at Macclesfield Town.
Well after yet another goal from Marc Pugh, a 1-0 scoreline meant they are still unbeaten with 9 out of 9! Although maybe not as exciting as 4-3 and 5-4 scorelines, there are many positives we should be taking from this very young and inexperienced side.
It has been mentioned by Youth Team Coach Terry Pashley, that the last few games we have not played as well as he would like but Saturday saw a return to form. And maybe just as important, work being done in defense is obviously paying off with a clean sheet.
Speaking on the official site, Terry said "We played better than we have for the last few weeks. We looked solid at the back and created some good chances but I felt that sometimes the players in possession didn't appreciate their team mates who I thought were in better positions.
So back to Pugh. A third year apprentice under 19 (the only one at the club!) he has now scored 15 goals so far this season. He made it onto the bench at Villa last week and surely it is only time that will see him given a chance at a higher level? A local kid from Bacup who started as a right midfielder, certainly has that goal scoring touch, and how many times do you see natural goal scorers "step" up divisions with ease?
With further mention in the match report of Lafferty and Platt creating many chances, surely this is looking the best Youth Team for some time?
The team on Saturday was Crossley, Stott, Casey, Smith (Hanley), Blackler, Henry, Underwood (Akbar), Platt, Pugh, Lafferty, Rodriguez. Subs not used: Kay, Turner. There next game is scheduled for next Saturday November 5th at home to Preston. Here's hoping for a great derby success.
