Weller Back at Turf Moor
The Burnley FC Leisure and Community Department has been boosted by the appointment of former Clarets midfielder Paul Weller.
Weller, who has retired from the professional game because of a persistent injury, has joined the staff at the Turf Moor Leisure Centre to work in the local community and with several projects that the Department has ongoing.
The students who spend time at the Leisure Centre as part of their National Diploma of Football Studies with Myerscough College will receive coaching from Weller, who made over 250 League appearances for Burnley.
He will also be out and about in the local schools and spending time coaching youngsters at the Soccer Schools and after-school sessions that are put on by the Community Programme throughout the year.
Weller will also be heavily involved with the Football Development Centre at Nelson and Colne College, with these advanced sessions hoping to help unearth talented local youngsters for the club.
Weller is also training to gain further qualifications in teaching Tae-Bo and spinning which will enable him to take classes in those exercises at the Leisure Centre
Speaking about the appointment, Leisure and Community Manager Dean Ramsdale said: "Over the years we have always had players who have come along and got involved with the department and then come on to work with us, people like Jamie Hoyland, Gerry Harrison, Vince Overson and Andy Farrell.
"Paul was always keen to help the Community Programme when he was a player and we're delighted he has chosen to go into the field now. "It will be fantastic for the local youngsters when a former Claret comes along to coach them in football and we're delighted to have him on board now.
