With an unbelievable prize and a full weeks worth of decade set questions, it's been a superb quiz from beginning to end..........

The Longside Quiz
Burnley Through The Ages
Well what a great quiz! Firstly we must congratulate Claret Andy who fought hard all the way through and pulled off a superb victory. The competition started last Monday with contestants ready to go on the 1960's. With the quiz being timed, as well as marked on correct answers, the choice of the internet to find answers was pitted against the brain of long serving claret fans. But remember Tuesday through to Friday was a decade at a time and slowly but surely the younger members would have an edge! Before I go through the rounds let's remind ourselves just what a superb prize Andy has won!

A ticket to attend The Longside Sponsors Day at Turf Moor
Saturday December 17th (Watford at Home)

The days plan is as follows;

Arrive at 12 noon for BFC welcome
Stadium Tour with Burnley Legend Andy Lochhead
Three-course meal with coffee served at approx 1pm
Player Kit presentation on pitch
Seats in Bob Lord with complimentary match programme and gift
Half-time refreshments
Bar facility
Presentation with Man of Match/Chairman
Car Parking space if required

This really is a superb prize and a superb opportunity and it is all down to the sites recent sponsorship of Physio Claire Judd. The chance to meet Claire alone is brilliant let alone Andy Lochhead! In monetary value this day is worth £90.00! So WELL DONE ANDY

ROUND 1 Monday 1960-69

Well as you may imagine the brain certainly beat the technology on day one! It is ok being able to "Google" but you will never beat the mind of a long serving claret fan like ForeverClaret. The questions were posted up at 7pm on the dot and by 7:03 ForeverClaret had typed the answers in and emailed them to admin!!!!!!!! With ClaretAndy hard on the heels only 4 minutes later (having sent them to the wrong email address first!) DarrenIrvine was the only other with 100% marks.

ROUND 2 Tuesday 1970-79

So the 1970's and the start of the decline in Burnley's fortunes meant that questions became harder to recall! How many fans started to lose touch or stop going at all. Another quick response and some great memories and the round one leaders were put under serious pressure with ColinWaldron coming through and taking all 5 point in 12 minutes. We should also mention JimmyMac who entered on Tuesday having not see the build up, 5 right and straight in there, could he recoup missing the whole of the first round?

ROUND 3 Wednesday 1980-89

So into Wednesday and the often dreadful eighties! The questions now upped in difficulty and not just the age of contestants came into play. Many fans struggled through the eighties and this showed in the length of time answers took coming in with people obviously having to do some searching. The early leader, ForeverClaret, struggled more than some and with a surprising three points gave up top spot to our eventual winner who kept very strong with a perfect five. SlightlyDangerous is unstoppable at the prediction league at the moment, and showed great knowledge and pace coming in second after only 15 minutes. One last thing with this round was the controversy surrounding question three. Season 1979/80 counted in the eighties? The quiz master made his decision after some debate, the first official season in the eighties was 1980/81! A new leader takes over.

ROUND 4 Thursday 1990-99

I want to start talking about Voice_of_Reason at this stage! VOR is a superb character on the board (ok so he's my dad!) but seriously mention should be made of how this quiz was shaping up because with VOR having no internet access at night and using a phone entry it was becoming obvious how the internet was playing a bigger part in it. Things were hotting up and the front runners were holding the pace but some great entries from McKav and Soapylily kept them on their heels. With high scores from 7 out of 10 contestants it was going to the last night.

Scores Round 4 Leader Board after Four Rounds

McKav 5 & 22 mins

ForeverClaret 18 & 2:42 Mins

ROUND 5 Friday 2000-Current Day

There was to be a surprise in store for the final round, with contestants being given a Bonus Question worth a winner changing 10 points! With the lead being only one and a half points and the top nine contestants being within five points (!) all to play for. The round was won by SlightlyDangerous and ClaretAndy and ForeverClaret were only half a point off but what about the bonus question? Well there was one contestant who understood it and tried to work it out. ForeverClaret emailed and after a double count up by the judge was unfortunately out by too few to mention! ClaretAndy had pulled it off!

Thanks!

Well it's the first time we have tried something like this on The Longside and it certainly appears to have been a major success. I would personally like to thank everyone for taking the time and putting the effort in all week. Would also like to mention Phil who prepared the 60's and 70's questions for which was a massive help. Finally my wife!!!! She hasn't got me off here every evening this week and hopefully her mention here will get me back in her good books!!!!!!!
