According to his agent, Luton Shelton is still very much attracting interest from Burnley. A work permit was rejected last season but Burnley boss Steve Cotterill is reportedly still looking at bringing the striker in. Kev Robinson brings you this article on the young Jamaican talent.

Jamaican international striker Luton Shelton is still a target for Burnley, according to his agent.

 

The 20-year-old was a target for the Clarets at the start of last season, after impressing whilst on trial from his home town club, Harbour View. After agreeing terms, he was all set to sign on at Turf Moor, until a work permit was rejected.

 

Described as one of Jamaica’s hottest young players, Shelton is currently on a three month loan with Swedish club Helsingborg, although he has been limited to just three appearances so far, after picking up an injury after opening the scoring in their 4-0 win over Ostersis.

 

Shelton marked his return from injury in the international friendly against England, a match he admitted he was desperate to play in. He replaced Marlon King in the starting line-up after the Watford striker was dismissed from the squad earlier in the week. It seems however that he was rushed back from his injury, only lasting 47 minutes, being substituted just two minutes into the second half at Old Trafford.

 

In the build-up to the game Shelton revealed that Steve Cotterill is still keen to bring him to England.  "I do not mind it here (Helsingborg) and I would definitely stay because I am not sure about being signed anywhere else and it is definitely better than staying in Jamaica. According to my agent, Burnley still want to sign me but that cannot happen until I qualify with the required number of games.”

 

So Turf Moor could still yet become the home of Jamaica’s hottest prospect should he meet the requirements needed to obtain a work permit.
