Wednesday have today recieved the news that centre-back Drissa Diallo will be on the sidelines for 6-8 weeks following his injury against Queens Park Rangers last Friday night. Richie Partridge has also sustained an injury that will see him miss the Leicester match.
The news is a big blow to boss Paul Sturrock, following a gritty display from Diallo against QPR before his injury. Diallo seemed to be forming a formidable partnership with Graham Coughlan in the heart of the Wednesday defence.
Diallo ruptured a thigh muscle in a freak injury at Loftus Road nearly two weeks ago, and Sturrock had hoped the former Ipswich man would be available for the weekends trip to Leicester City. it now doesn't look like he will be back in first team action until early November at best - leaving Sturrock with a decision to make regarding Graham Coughlans partner in centre defence.
Richard Wood seems the likely candidate, having partnered Coughlan earlier in the season. Graeme Lee is also available for selection, but has failed to impress the Owls boss at championship level thus far. The signing of Maurice Ross means that it's likely there will be big changes in the back four for the trip to the Walkers stadium.
Wednesday have also recieved the news that Richie Partridge has sustained a hamstring injury in training and is unlikely to be fit for the weekend, leaving the way for Chris Eagles to return to first team action. Paul Heckingbottom has also been sent to Lilleshall for therapy on his hamstring injury.
On a positive note, the official SWFC site has also revealed that fellow treatment room teamates Lee Peacock and Glenn whelen look set to be available for the Leicester match following their injuries sustained at Loftus Road.
