Wednesday defender Paul Heckingbottom is stepping up his return to first team action after he appeared in the reserves 1-0 victory over Stoke City on Tuesday afternoon. The 28-year-old former Bradford lef-back hasn't featured for the Owls this season following his achilles injury in pre-season.

Wednesday defender Paul Heckingbottom played another 90 minutes for the reserves in their 1-0 victory over Stoke City on Tuesday afternoon.

The 28-year-old left back has not featured for the Owls this season after an achilles injury in pre-season prevented the former Bradford man making an appearance.

Heckingbottom was sent to Lilleshall for two weeks by Owls physios to recover from the injury, and is now on the way back to full fitness.

He played a full 90 minutes in the reserves meeting with Huddersfield Town last week and continued his fight for recovery in the match on Tuesday where he completed a further 90 minutes. He hopes he will be ready to feature in the squad for the trip to Plymouth a week on Saturday.

The reserves beat Stoke thanks to a superb goal from Barry Corr from a Ritchie Partridge cross. Richard Wood and Burton O'Brien also featured in the win.
