Wednesday defender Drissa Diallo has boosted Paul Sturrock's squad to travel to Watford after recovering from a tendon injury which has kept him out of action for two and a half months. The former Ipswich Town defender is stepping up his fitness in a hope to regain his first team place.

Paul Sturrock has had a welcome boost ahead of the Owls trip south to Watford this weekend after hearing defender Drissa Diallo is back in the frame after recovering from injury.

The former Ipswich Town man was injured in the game against QPR nearly two and a half months ago, but is stepping up his fitness in a bid to regain his first team place.

He told Wednesday World: ''It's been a nightmare. I'd just got into the team and got injured in only my second start. It was a strange injury in the way it happened. I went to clear a ball in the QPR game, extended my right leg and overstretched the groin muscle as my body went forward.''

Diallo has expressed his delight at being involved with the first team squad once again.

''It was a bad injury as I snapped one of the tendon attatchments. It was a frustrating time but thankfully I'm back in training and have had a couple of reserve games, so I'm back in contention and can look forward now.''

The news doesn't come soon enough for Wednesday, who have had injury and suspension worries in the defensive area, and have also been conceding goals, with Sturrock claiming 'heads will roll' when new players return.
