Last night I was rang by a friend who said Ramsey was signing for Arsenal, but I just couldn't raise the enthusiasm to rush into print. I remember getting excited by the signing of Walcott, I rated him, and I still do, but it takes oh so long. Walcott is almost there now, but Ramsey might need as long to settle in.
But there is something exciting about this, not just because he is a great prospect, but because he chose Arsenal over any other team in the Premiership. He could have picked any team he wanted, indeed a week ago Manchester United claimed they had signed him. But he chose Arsenal.
£5 million Signing
At a time when it is considered iconoclastic, in some quarters, to pick fault with Wenger, especially his failure to spend £50 million in the 10 days that the transfer window opened, and apparently the fact that he has failed in every transfer window since time began; including the one where Arsene beat everyone to Campbell's signature. At such a time Ramsey shows a faith in Wenger that some Arsenal fans are not pepared to give him.
Well Ramsey is one for the future, I will be more excited when I hear Nasri has signed. I would also be pleased to hear we have signed a classy central defender. As for strikers, well Villa had a great game tonight but with Fabregas heading them in, Eduardo picking up his bed and walking, and even more miraculously RvP managing 20 minutes without injury we clearly can wait for Ramsey to make the grade.
Seems like a decent prospect and with 7 subs allowed next season, he could get a few minutes at the end of games as well as Carling cup and FA cup games.
dont matter though because our offer has been accepted its his terms that make the difference not the transfer fee.
Must sayi completely agree about the most exciting part being that he chose us over anyone else, i think his friends being local helped but i'd also like to think wenger told this kid he wants to play him not watch him train.
Peter Nicholas was last Welshman to be a regular in the side (early 80's), Rhys Wilmott was around at the same time as a sub goalie. Since then I can only think of Rhys Weston who got a couple of games a few years ago before ending up at Cardiff - not sure where he is now, by the way Weston was not Welsh untill after he played in first team for us
