I was that empty seat as Arsenal go first Crisis what crisis

That’s first on Match of the Day, and that was because of the relegation interest, two teams struggling for 4th place. In Villa’s case trying to make it fourth from bottom, which this narrow score line failed to achieve sending them back into the relegation zone.

You may have noticed the many empty seats, well I can explain one of them, I was incapacitated by some dodgy duck and at short notice the people I contacted had more important things to do. No doubt two cup defeats in freezing cold weather probably meant that quite a few didn’t want to freeze their brass monkeys off to watch more defensive ineptitude. Unfortunatley there is no way you can make a return at late notice so more money down the drain, which I know myself and many others are getting fed up of.

I tried to get a live stream but my computer was hijacked by some dodgy video download that refused to go away even when I did click on the x. So I slunk off to Kremlin.com as the only way of getting information on the match’s progress. Which reminds me I must run a health check on it later, two dodgy viruses (stomach and computer) in one week is too much.

I hate listening to matches on radio, everything seems somore dangerous, and it seemed that after Arsenal scored that Villa were getting chance after chance, well the BBC stats only show three Villa shots on target compared to the Gunners 14 on target with 24 in total, yet only 2 goals to show for it. That’s one goal for every 12 chances, whilst Villa had one goal for five chances in total.

This is a theme I have touched on regularly, if Arsenal increased the conversion rate they would be in the top three, but that requires a quality striker, which at that the moment doesn’t exist. Whether Giroud, Podolski or Walcott can become that striker is one for the future, unfortunately points are awarded in the present.

No case for the defence

The other side of this case of goals scored is the high rate conceded, a low score rate is made worse by the high rate of conceding? Why such a high rate of conversion for the opponent? One reason must be three centre backs out of form and a now clearly dodgy keeper. He increasingly looks suspect, the shot conceded was clearly saveable, yet almost every week he makes a rick.

I had my doubts about him after his appearance in the European Cup for Poland, I don’t think he has recovered from his mistake in that competition, but agree, or disagree, not having real competition for the no 1 spot cannot be a good thing.

Crisis what Crisis?

So inspite of so many shots resulting in a close shave of a win,   Arsene was so grateful for the  result that he told us that the points were more important than performance.  For Wenger the three points had ended the “crisis” of the last week. He was not using the word ironically, he was admitting that it was a crisis. Of course he is right the points are more important than the performance. The only problem is that Arsenal cannot afford to slip up again before the end of the season, better teams than Villa may possibly avoid defeat in the face of such incompetence at both ends of the pitch. Arsenal have struggled to beat relegation fodder all season, and rarely, if ever, beat top 5 teams.

Kremlin.com

Having purged Stewart Robson from the staff one listener was shocked that the commentators still continued to question the team’s inability to kill the game off, and when Villa equalised it reinforced the point. What took me by surprise was the number of critical of Wenger phone calls that came in at post match. I did wonder why they hadn’t been purged, but then it occurred to me that if they had of done it would have been one long silence.

Final score Arsenal 2 Villa 1        Cazorla 6′, 85′              Weimann 68′

Padre i have noticed you bring up this idea of competition for goalkeeper spot many times so i'd like to know from a veteran gooner such as yourself when did we last have real competition to any of our first choice keepers. Wilson rimmer jennings lukic seaman mad jens, did any of them have serious rivals for their place, nearest we came was wood to jennings and at that time pat was well past it. Its the one position most clubs don't have competition in.

I`m not answering for Padre, Ed, but if there is competition for the #1 shirt, when a fall in form appears or injury turns up, there is good cover.

Also I believe our present situation is unique, in that our present #1, Szczseny is only 22yrs, and this brings into question his/our experience at the back.

Would it not be a better situation if Szczseny was our #2, behind an experienced, top draw keeper?

Since the end of WW1, 1919, when the FA restarted its 4 tier football league, with Arsenal fc in the 1st div, there’s only ever been one club to have never been relegated from Div 1/ EPL.

Let’s keep making history

Was going to say the same thing weedz. I also think we may need a better gk coach. Preferably one that has won titles. No offence to Gerry, but being in the 3rd division team of the year (twice) is hardly awe inspiring. Woj needs mad Jens or safe-hands seaman to show him how to be a champion goalie.

As for the game, it really was a case of same old $hit. Everyone looking for jack to keep our fluidity.
Yet again, Sgt Bilko Jenko still doesn't look up the wing, where theo was invariably in the villa back line waiting for a race that would never happen.
Verms is still bombing up the pitch looking to help the "strikers", in fact there was one occasion where Meatlocker did the same, and was never getting back behind the ball.
All I can say is, at least villa are worse than us.
Agbonglahore needs to remember to put his studs in. Goes over like an old girl on ice if someone farts on him, as ever. Pathetic.
But for all the@#$%&passing, at least Caz has figured how to disguise his shots from the keepers. Much like his goal against Sunderland, he managed to nutmeg 2 players this time, leaving the goalie no chance. Just as well one player can't be stopped in a crowded box!

Good point on no 2 goalkeepers but even under Wenger with Seaman we were willing to sign Richard Wright who at the time was the best prospect around, even though he didn't work out Seaman upped his game accordingly. To keep goal at a club like Arsenal especially at the Emirates is different to a lot of places because the GK can be out of the game for long periods so its more about concentration.
My problem with Sczesny at the moment is most of his errors are basics.

Graham signed Seaman when Lukijc was still considered a top keeper, fans were surprised. If you are going to win anything you need a top keeper.

Padre graham signing seaman was not competition to lukic it was to replace him as lukic left within weeks. T'd have no problem if we signed a world class goalie but they are few and far between but that is not the point being made when you say competition. Seaman had vince bartram, rami shabban and the like as back up, wright was bought to replace seaman and that season he and taylor along with seaman all played enough games to win fapl medals, would say it was only time a team with three bad goalies won the title

No padre szczesny is a decent keeper, only replace him with a world class one if we can get one as there are very few out there. Sort out the defence and it would give szczesny a chance to become world class.

If there arent any better keepers out there than Chesney than get rid of scouting team there is no point in keeping them

I watched the game and as usual waited for us to bollox up our defence and hand a goal to the other team. What the defenders were doing so far up the pitch still mystifies me. Keeper should never have to have made the safe - don't get me wrong he should have saved it though.

We scored after 6 minutes and all the tippy tappy @#$%& begins. Why was rosicky on the bench. the number of times we get the ball, fart around and then pass side ways is beginning to get very tiresome.

But hey lets face it we are a well run club that doesn't want a sugar daddy right? we got fu*ked by our own "custodians" who took massive amounts of money out of the club and entrusted that "custodianship" to a yank who knows jack about Arsenal and football! Now apart from the glazers at Manure can you think of anyone that actually takes money out of a football club? Owning a football club is like a trophy purchase these days - like a yacht. You know you will lose money! Not sure Stan has a yacht though! Roman and Jabba the hut do...

to complete my post and to explain the rant at the end of it...

we got 70 million quid apparently for summer. apart from the fact that is a tiresome broken record we hear every time there is a crisis lets think what you could do with that in todays market. Sod all is the answer. Quality striker 30 million plus. Quality GK, DM, CB etc 20 million plus. To my reckoning we need at least 5 players and 70 million won't even pay the transfer fees let alone wages. However outrageous we think salaries are NO quality players are coming for less than 100k a week. Simple fact.

So settle down to the annual 4th place trophy hunt fellas.

Depressing.

Thats waht they will be investing for SwissGunner, as they know this squad no longer good enough to maintain 4th place and thats as far as it goes

And people compare our model to bayern! last time I looked they are 80% + owned by the fans and therefore for the benefit of the fans. How I wish we were like Bayern!!

The fans got shafted by the previous board - including Fitzman who also got a statue for his troubles... Speaking ill of the dead you might say. But who is mourning for the Arsenal???

Bayern are self sustaining and invested in players, they get massive sponsorship - why?
Because they win things.

When Arsenal drop out of CL Emirates will cut sponsorship payments

Give the fan base a reason for hope ... get rid of wenger as soon as possible.

a fresh start with a few new players and a brand new manager with a brand new system will invest the club and its followers with unbounded optimism. there is a real thirst for change by most Arsenal people.

wenger will NEVER embrace change.
wenger will NEVER admit to his own shortcomings.

replace wenger and buy a few new players and the Board will sell more tickets and merchandise than they have ever dreamed of doing.
