Player Ratings v QPR
By Matty Sadler
March 4 2015
Absolutely awful first half where our midfield was out muscled by QPR's physical players, but we can out in the second half flying and completely dominated.
Ospina - 6. Very good in the first half, had little to do in the second half. Couldn't of done much about Austin's goal.
Bellerin - 7. Defended well and attacked well. Good all round performance.
Mertesacker - 7. Absolutely quality in the first half. Shown people like me he may still have something to offer.
Gabriel - 5. He wasn't playing very well before he went off injured.
Gibbs - 7. Defended well and attacked well. Good all round performance. Got two assists. Should've done better for QPR's goal though.
Coquelin - 7. Warrior-like when he needed to be.
Cazorla - 7. Pretty quiet for about an hour, then he came alive. Played a big part in both our goals.
Rosicky - 6. Rubbish in the first half, some good moments in the second.
Ozil - 7. Quiet first half, quality in the second half. Would've scored were in not for an unnoticed Karl Henry foul. Also hit the post.
Alexis - 7. Quiet first half, stepped up in the second. Important for us he ended his goal drought. Could've had a hat trick tonight.
Giroud - 7. Quiet game from the big man, but he got the all important first goal.
Subs:
Koscielny - 7. Came on for Gabriel and slotted right in. Should've done better for QPR's goal though.
Ramsey - N/A. Not on long.
Welbeck - N/A. Not on long.

Bellerin and Coquelin my MOTM. Almost flawless games. Gabriel was brushed off a couple of times by Zamora, will take him time to start expecting those shoves. Hope its not too serious like a hamstring

Ospina deserves a higher rating. Consecutive solid performances form him and kept us in the game in the first half.

You're right, I thought I'd given him a 7 as well.

Considering his injury, I though Coq was outstanding, again, tonight. ( even though it's 11am, on this side, as I write this.)
Since the end of WW1, 1919, when the FA restarted its 4 tier football league, with Arsenal fc in the 1st div, there’s only ever been one club to have never been relegated from Div 1/ EPL.

Gibbs never learned isn't it?
He should have tactical awareness that there is no QPR player behind him or down left-flank, only 1-on-1 with Austin with Koscielny just behind him.
Instead of closing Austin, he simply stepped back giving Austin the luxury of space and time to pick his spot.
He is not a natural left-back with no defensive instinct and positional awareness and still does not communicate well with Koscielny or fellow defenders.
We need to buy a more defensive-minded LB this summer.
Gibbs is no better than Armand Traore and worse than Clichy and even Monreal.

Are you trying to suggest that he wasn't the one who got the ball to Giroud and Alexis?

Be fair Merl. If you watch it again, Gibbs clearly spotted Darnell Furlong out right on the overlap and started running towards him (his job being to protect our left and all...). If Austin had played the ball out right and Gibbs hadn't gone to him, you'd be going mental about that instead.
Charlie Austin was Koscielny's man, yet Koscielny stood there doing nothing and allowed him to turn and shoot. Niether Gibbs nor Koscielny come off squeaky clean. A bit of communication from them would've prevented it, as would Cazorla/ Bellerin closing down the crosser, or Mertesacker/ Coquelin not allowing the ball to bounce across the penalty area. It was poor defending all around, something unfortunately we have in our locker.

Unless I am reading it wrong, it appears that this site credits Gibbs with only one assist in yesterday's match.

Anyone who calls them assist should be embarrassed.
The first one was a shot which deflected luckily into Girouds pass and the 2nd Gibbs chested the ball down for himself but Sanchez took it off him.
Hardly assist, anyone who understands football wouldn't call them assist.

GS I agree they were very minor interventions and not very skilful, but him being there was important to what happened next. He makes consistent and well timed runs, and keeps what he does simple. Boring as that may be, it was too much for their rookie RB to handle.

40 yard sprint by Gibbs to overlap Alexis for our 1st goal.
