Lokonga MotM Player Ratings v the Toon

First half Arsenal looked like they had a hangover from Liverpool,  but 2nd half they stepped up playing well and deserving the 3 points.

Ramsdale 7 - One very good save but didn't have much else to do.

Tomi 8 - Handled their biggest threat very well and got forward well, great pass for Martinelli goal.

White 7 - Solid enough.  Moved the ball too slowly in the first half.

Gabriel 7 - Solid. is the leader at the back.

Tavares 8 - Was questioned and answered very well.  His athletism was too much for Newcastle and his pass to Saka for his goal was Fantasic.  Needs to stop shooting with his right foot so often.

Partey 6 - Disappointing first half but done better 2nd half but was still sloppy at times.

Lokonga 9 - Another who answered his critics. Always available for a pass.  Good runs forward.  Solid defensively and played a few great passes.  MOTM

Saka 8 - Ran Ritchie ragged.  Pace skill and a great goal.  Hopefully he's ok for Thursday.

Odegarrd 7 - Always puts in a shift but doesn't shoot enough when he's in good positions.  Likely to get the nod ahead of Laca at Old Trafford.

Smith Rowe 6 Put in a shift but was sloppy in the ball and didn't really get into the game from the left.

Auba 4 - I forget he was playing until his awful miss.  Was poor and didn't offer much.  Needs to get back to where he was 1 month ago.

Subs:

Martinelli 8 - Livewire and great finish.  Deserve a more game time and hopefully with performance he gets it.

Laca 6- Didn't look like he was going to score when he was 1 on 1.

Huge game next at Old Trafford which will be a big test of this team.

Funny enough I don’t think we’ve lost at old Trafford in a few a years now. A few draws and a win last season. I wouldn’t be too optimistic this season though. I feel like it’s a game they will win. I’d take a draw.

Hoping for something like this up there:

Ramsdale

Tomiyasu
White
Gabriel
Tierney

Partey
Lokonga

ESR

Martineli
Auba
Saka

I prefer Tavares but I think he could cost us like at anfield, defensively.

I like that team but I'd start Tavares against Utd as their counter attack is their main strengh and basically that is their new managers favourite tactic.

Martinelli could be a great wild card as this goal will give him confidance.

Should have started game a lot better.
Ramsdale busiest keeper that 1st half.
But a good 3 points to get after Liverpool defeat.

Ramsdale 8 - His great save stopped us going one down 1st half when we never got going.

Tomi 8 - Thought he had probably his best game. Great pass for Martinelli goal.

White 7 - Did ok.

Gabriel 7 - Didn't look comfortable one on one. Got out muscled a bit today

Tavares 7 - Did well. Lots of pace again. Got to look to pass instead of shooting.

Partey 6 - Average once more.

Lokonga 7 - Did well today.

Saka 8 - MOTM - Scored and always looked lively. Hopefully not injured.

Odegaard 5 - Thought he was pretty poor again.

Smith Rowe 6 - Playing Odegaard doesn't help him one bit.

Auba 3 - Terrible miss. Looked like the bad Aubameyang again today.

Subs:

Martinelli 7 - Brilliant finish to give us that bit of a cushion.

Laca 6 - Tried.

Tavares deserves more than a 7 Boston. 2nd half he was sensational. Huge threat to their defence and if it wasn't for his recovery pace they'd have equalised as Ben White got dusted.

Lokonga was also the best player on the park.

Mikel Arteta: “It was too slow [in the first-half], our first phase with our centre-backs was too slow & we didn’t have enough threat in behind & we didn’t occupy certain spaces, which they defended well. Once we interpreted that better, we started to attack much better.”

Agree with this.

Not a lot of point doing ratings if we have to agree with yours.

We're starting to see more of Tomi passing range with both feet. He was one of our better players yesterday no doubt.

He needs to start performing away from home because that's where he's struggled.
