Not a great victory, but on Astro Turf and a long way from home a wins win. Three points is 3 points and we can finish the job next week by beating PSV at home.
RATINGS
Turner 7 - MOTM. He kept us in the game with a fine save and good anticipation to come out early to snuff out through ball. Watch that slow motion when he dived quickly with one shot just missed the upper corner of goal post. His quick reaction is better than Ramsdale.
White 6 - nothing much to do. Just another day in the office.
Saliba 7 - again a commanding presence and a pillar in defence.
Holding 5 - simply too slow and turn like a lumbering ox with two crippled legs. His reading is poor and just slow.
Tierney 6 - mediocre and there is a suspicion he is not up to ArtetaBall and just an excellent LB in the wrong era, say in 1990s, he will be superb in 4-4-2.
Lokonga 6 - extra point for that assist to Saka. Just slow of thought and took too many touches before passing. When his pass was intercepted, he simply does not have the quickness to react quickly to back track. What is the point of signing him?
Vieira 5 - I don't think I saw him on the pitch in the 1st half. Even in 2nd half, he was all over the place and just not in the flow of transitions.
Odegaard 6 - just going through the motion and maybe under instruction to pace himself to avoid injury.
Nelson 5 - lack match fitness and looked slow too. That is not the way to fight for a contract extension.
Nketiah 6 - a journeyman and traditional English forward. No linkup plays and he should realize in this game that why he will not start a league game unless Jesus is not available. Arteta needs to think hard to buy another striker in January.
Saka 7 - one extra point for that goal. Other than that, like Odegaard, instructed to avoid injury.
Substitution:
Tomi 7 - his usual bustling self and reinforced the defence at the point that Bodo started to overrun us.
Xhaka 6 - took command in the centre.
Martinelli 6 - gave the attack a buzz instead of previous awful disjointed displace.
Marquinhos 6 - gave pace at right flank but still raw and not gel into team yet. Love his tracking back.
Partey N/A late substitution to stiffen midfield and defence with Lokonga getting worse and overrun.
