Nketiah MotM Ratings v Sheffield

By Boston Gooner

After a quiet 20 minutes we got going and the game was never in doubt. Sheff Utd were poor. Brilliant display by Nketiah

RATINGS

GK: Raya - 7/10 - Easiest mistake-free game he will have. 2 Brilliant long passes.

RB: White - 7/10 - Mr. Reliable. Unlucky not to score. His blocking the keeper helped in a couple of goals.

CB: William Saliba - 7/10 - Easy day at the office. In command.

CB: Kiwior - 7/10 - As above. But still don't think he's 1st team material.

LB: Zinchenko - 7/10 - Another one with an easy day. Didn't have to worry about his defending.

DM: Rice - 9/10 - The best player on the pitch again. But for Eddie Hat-trick would have been MOTM again. The guy is immense and worth every penny spent on him.

CM: Havertz - 5/10 - You were hoping this was the game he would shine. We got that wrong again. See no future for him as a 1st teamer.

CM: Emile Smith Rowe - 6/10 - Ok. Looks knackered but minutes will have done him good. Never going to be a 1st teamer either.

RW: Saka (c) - 6/10 - Captain for the day. Once again didn't look right.

CF: Nketiah - 9/10 - Great Hat-trick 3rd one was a terrific strike. He looked good against a Championship team. His level.

LW: Martinelli - 7/10 - Lively. Needs to lay it off quicker. Worry about him everytime he goes down. I'm sure he's no need to half the time.

Substitutes.

Tomi. 7. PLeased for Tomi getting his 1st goal.

Trossard. 6. Saw out the game for us.

Fabio Vieira. 7. Pen and an assist.

Reiss Nelson. 5. Another who isn't 1st team material.

Are you saying Nketiah is a Championship level striker and wouldn't start for any other Premier League team?

Surely he starts for every team in the bottom half of the table

If he had been selfish and took the pen his 4. Goals would be equal to only two other players for Arsenal who scored 4 in Prem. One being Henry and the other I think was Wrighty

He is a Championship level striker at best.
Anyone in the Premier who takes him on does so at their own risk.
Especially for the wages he's on.

Great to see that achievement.
But a bit sick at the end when they bloody equalised I bet.

Eddie still has the potential to be more than a lower Prem striker or Championship level...
Much depends on how we utilise his talents and ability and how we attempt to mould him...
For me ,confidence, self belief and assurance are the key to him making it as a top level striker. We have a poacher, let him be what he is and poach, overcoaching can be detrimental...

He needs to improve his awareness and passing and stop shooting when someone else is in a better position.

I say he needs coaching on the above.

He is a poacher but modern football requires more of a striker than simpley being a fox in the box.

To an extent I'd agree , however the bottom line is that goals win games. Personally I would not give a 'Tinkers F**k' if all Eddie (or any other of our forwards for that matter) did was nothing except put the ball in the back of the net when the opportunity arose...natural instinct must not be coached out of the proverbial 'fox in the box'.

Do you know what, when I think about where we have come to now from my most frustrated times under Wenger, that game always comes to mind for me.

As exciting and phenomenal game as it was, just how we couldn't defend to save our lives or see out a game, used to infuriate me. To put ourselves in such a great position with our new signing scoring 4 goals at Anfield, only to just fold under pressure so often at the other end was debilitating. It happened so often as well, but that game is the one that always springs to mind when I think about it.

Wasn’t it more a case we go ahead they equalise? I remember it being a mad game. TNT have a reprise of Arsenal 19 years in CL. Although we never won it we had some great moments.
Arshavin scoring v Barca. First English team to win at the Bernabeau. The Win at Inter, Jens run of clean sheets in ko stage to final, then he goes mad etc etc

Yeah but we went 4-3 up so late, it should have been close up shop, but still somehow we were wide open and conceded to make it 4-4.

The Anfield CL game was much worse. To go 2-1 up then within one minute, penalty! Fabregas chasing Babel at the end was just sad.
