How Shocking Is That Arsenal

That's an understatement for the situation we now find ourselves in. We already went into the season at least a forward short and then our only actual 'striker' in Jesus is ruled out for the season. Yet we still didn't get the cheque book out in January. What inevitably happens, the basket that all our eggs are now in as well as our one and only other false-9 option topples over and Havertz is ruled out for the season. With Saka and Martinelli out as well, the season and any realistic chance at silverware is as good as a write off.
The counter argument of course to why we didn't sign someone is that every club jacks up the asking price and you have to pay up to £20-30m inflation on a player in January. So the answer is quite simply, so what? Why didn't we do it last summer knowing that was the case? We have some seriously experienced people running the club do we not? Or were we expecting that knowing we were already short (as every other club and person with half a sheep's brain knew as well), that a club somewhere would say, I know let's do Arsenal a favour and give them a top class striker on the cheap this January?
That said, I'm still struggling to place the blame at Arteta's feet at this point. I imagine he is as furious as us fans are with only being left a backup midfielder as a striker, simply to wave goodbye to Liverpool in the title race as early as February 20th. In fact he openly admitted we needed reinforcements up front in January, so the problem is quite obviously further up the hierarchy. I don't see how it can be due to PSR rules either as we had no problem making that pathetic token offer for Watkins. If I was Arteta I'd speak up and be transparent about it because he is running the risk of going down Wenger's route of being labelled a corporate sell out, i.e. taking his huge pay packet as compensation to be at the font and centre covering up a fraudulent ownership.
I'm happy with the job and progress Arteta has made to date, but when our VERY outside CL hopes end, serious questions need to be answered by the club for this seasons negligence/incompetence. This season reeks of the barren Wenger years, so it needs rectifying in the summer with some serious action.
