With three first timers in the Masters tournament in Dennis Wise, Gustavo Poyet and Gianfranco Zola, Chelsea raced to their 4th successive Masters Champions crown with a 5-1 defeat of Queens Park Rangers in the final this evening at Wembley.

In addition to picking up the Southern Masters crown, Chelsea's Gianfranco Zola won the Player of the Tournament award and the Golden Boot Award for scoring seven goals, including a hat-trick in the final.

Chelsea's opening group game was against QPR and despite going down to the quickest ever Masters goal scored, four seconds, and then conceding a second, the red-hot favourites came back and the game ended 4-4. Chelsea's scorers were: Poyet (2), Wise and Zola.

In their next game, Chelsea beat Southampton 3-1, with the goals scored by Zola, Poyet and Walker and in their final group game Chelsea beat West Ham Utd 6-4 with Zola, Poyet and Wise all scoring two goals each.

In the final against QPR, Gianfranco Zola scored a hat-trick and Chelsea's oldest player, Clive Walker, scored the other two.

The full Chelsea Squad was as follows:

Kevin Hitchcock

David Lee

Ken Monkou

Graham Stuart

Dennis Wise

Gustavo Poyet

As Southern Masters Champions, Chelsea go forward to the National Masters Finals to be held in Birmingham in September. Chelsea were beaten finallists last year, losing to Leicester City.
