The Academy completed their Milk Cup campaign in Northern Ireland yesterday. A campaign that saw them play five games in five days and which started with a 2-1 win over the Youth of County Antrim. Goals from Sergio Tejera and Captain Jack Cork sealed the win.

New Academy coach Ruud Kaiser described the game as 'physical.'

In their next game against Spartak Moscow Youth, the Academy lost 2-0 with the goals coming very late in the game. Kaiser was unimpressed with the build up the Moscow's first goal. He said "It was still 0-0 with 15 minutes to go, we played a long ball out to Miroslav Stoch, we were attacking, and somebody said something to the referee and he whistled and gave a free-kick in our half. It was really, really stupid. We had the ball, and they scored from the free-kick."

In the third game against County Down Youth, the Academy won 4-0 with Scott Sinclair netting a couple, Miroslav Stoch and Jack Cork were the other scorers. Kaiser was not too pleased with the rough house antics of County Down, who had five players booked and one shown a red card.

Kaiser said, "When you call that development of football, it is a shameful thing,"

Next up came the challenge of Porto Youth who the Academy had beaten in last year's competition to reach the final. This time the outcome was different as Porto won 4-2 on penalties after the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Scott Sinclair added another goal to his already impressive goal-scoring record.

Kaiser said "Losing on penalties is a little bit of bad luck, but if we had started well they would not have happened."

In their last game of this year's Milk Cup competition, the Academy swept aside Londonderry Youth 6-0, with Scott Sinclair helping himself to four goals. Ben Sahar and Shaun Cummings completed the rout.

Coach Kaiser said in his delight, "Marvellous action, pace in the box. Scott’s first goal was a marvellous kick with the heel past the goalkeeper. John Hibbert set up a goal with a good shot the goalkeeper could only parry. Shaun Cummings scored one as well as assisting four. Ben Sahar came on for Fabio Ferreira who had a slight injury and he scored the other."

The Academy now return home and face Blackburn in a friendly at Cobham next Friday.
