Finally the curtain is being raised on the 2006/07 Premiership season this afternoon as Chelsea and Liverpool meet at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff to contest the Community Shield.

Me. I am more looking forward to the Premiership opener against Man City next Sunday than today. After all its the League that everybody wants to win and its the League where all supporters have high expectations and excitement, and it is the League that can runied those expectations in just a game or two.

Shots from both bows have been fired this week and the mind games have begun.

Certainly the mind games have appeared to affected Chelsea in recent times, especially in cup games. Champions League and last season's FA Cup as major examples, but in the League Chelsea completed 'the double' over the Reds, 4-1 and 2-0 respectively.

Jose has threatened to use this game as more as a 'training' session, due to many players arriving back at Cobham for pre-season training at different times, due to World Cup 2006. But even he might change his mind after the stirring performance Chelsea gave in the midweek 1-1 draw against Celtic on Wednesday night.

John Terry makes his first footballing appearance since being made England Captain and it will be interesting to see the reaction of vice-Captain Gerrard as he takes the field.

Fat Paella Man said that it was Liverpool's gain and England's loss when Gerrard didn't get the England Captaincy.

Cech is showing a rapid recovery from surgery to his shoulder but don't expect him to be ready today. Here's the starting line-up that you could expect this afternoon.

Cudicini, Ferreira, Carvalho, Terry (c), Bridge, Wright-Phillips, Lampard, Ballack, Robben, Drogba, Shevchenko

Tomorrow along with the rest of the England squad, Terry (England Captain), Lampard, Bridge and Wright-Phillips report for England duty for new Coach Steve McClaren's first game in charge against Greece on Wednesday and then its all systems go for next weekend's League kick-off.
