Tonight will be a night of mixed emotions at Stamford Bridge as the Champions take on Barcelona in the Champions League.

Firstly tonight will be the first game that Chelsea fans will be able to collectively send their best wishes to stricken Petr Cech. Secondly Eider Gudjohnsen, who spent six years at Chelsea before his move to Barcelona in the Summer, returns to the Bridge and is expected to start.

 

Chelsea will be making a presentation to Eider prior to kick-off to mark the appreciation of his services given to the club.

 

The Club has appealed to ALL fans to get inside the stadium as early as possible to get the atmosphere at fever pitch ready for kick-off.

 

Thirdly Henrique Hilario, Chelsea’s third choice goalkeeper makes his first competitive start in goal. Hilario has only played one first team game and that was in the US when Chelsea lost to the MLS All-Stars 1-0. Unfortunately for Hilario he conceded the goal, six minutes after coming on substitute for Carlo.

 

Hilario has also played one game for the Reserves a couple of weeks ago down at Fratton Park when Chelsea won 5-0.

 

After the appalling injury suffered by Petr Cech who has had two metal plates inserted into his skull here is my last comment on the incident.

 

If Hunt as claimed said ‘that there was no intent to harm Cech,’ where was the intent by Hunt to avoid the sickening collision?

 

Mchael Ballack should return to the starting line-up this evening. Claude Makelele is struggling with injury and Ashley Cole is not expected to feature.

 

So the line-up could look something like this.

 

Hilario, Boulahrouz, Terry, Carvalho, Bridge, Essien, Ballack, Lampard, J Cole, Shevchenko, Drogba
