After their defeat against Crystal Palace last weekend the Academy were beaten again this time at home to Ipswich Youth 2-1 again after taking the lead.
So after a perfect nine from nine start to the season, the Academy's record stands at nine from eleven with two successive defeats! With Jack Cork and Ryan Bertrand on loan to Bournemouth for a month each, the Academy had to rely on Sam Hutchinson and Lee Sawyer both returning from a month away injured to stabilise and consolidate a Chelsea Academy team adjusting to the loss of two of their colleagues. Miroslav Stoch scored his 7th goal in seven Academy matches with a cheeky chip from the penalty spot, after winning the penalty/ Bridcutt hit a post. Shaun Cummings hit the bar from 20 yards. Nielsen had a shot saved by the Ipswich 'keeper and Shaun Cummings had a deflected shot that hit the side netting. Two Ipswich goals in nine second-half minutes sealed the Academy's fate. First Harry Worley put through his own goal after missing an opportunity to put Chelsea 2-0 up and then after 'keeper James Russell failed to hold a shot, Ipswich scored their second and ultimately the winner. Academy Tomi Saarelma went close to giving the Academy an equaliser but just like last week's throwaway against the Palace, coach Rudd was less than forgiving. Football Icon 1 winner Sam Hurrell played his sixth full game of the season and with three substitute appearances has now made nine appearances in eleven games.
