Academy 1-0 Woolwich

Adam Phillip the hero of Chelsea's midweek Youth Cup win against Aston Villa was again on target as the Academy beat Woolwich 1-0 at Cobham. Today was the start of three games against Woolwich at three different levels. The first team play the second at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and then next Tuesday the Reserves go into Woolwich battle.
Today it was all about Adam Phillip who is an under 17 England International striker who in the 21st minute scored the game's only goal after a strong run and cross from schoolboy Frank Nouble. The team that started was in stark contrast to the eleven that started on Wednesday night. There was no Rhys Taylor, Michael Woods, Lee Sawyer, Miroslav Stoch, Gael Kakuta. Paul Clement Academy coach said, "After only playing two days ago, we changed the look of the team today. What we didn't want to happen was an after-the-Lord Mayor's-show following a big night the other night." He continued, "When you play Arsenal you always know it is going to be a good game. They beat us 3-1 earlier in the year. This time, we played the better football in the first half and created a bit more. In the second half, they were on top possession-wise but it was good to see that we defended well. We had a good chance late on and could have won it 2-0." Clement finished off by saying, "The lads will have a well-deserved couple of days off now and then we will prepare for the FA Youth Cup Final." Chelsea team: Niclas Heimann, Tom Taiwo (c), Shaun Cummings, Jack Saville, Jordan Tabor (Nana Ofori-Twumasi 15), Daniel Philliskirk, Ricardo Fernandes (Lee Sawyer h-t), Jordan Hibbert, Nikki Ahamed (Morten Nielsen 74), Adam Phillip, Frank Nouble.
And with an understrength team as well!
The future is bright. It does look as if Arnesen might be doing his job right after all.

Just one question though, why wasn't your English u17 goal scorer away with the u17 team? >> In other England news, Thomas Cruise and Jack Wilshere left a raining London Colony yesterday to link up with the England Under 17’s side in Tel Aviv ahead of the UEFA Under 17 Elite Round Tournament next week, it means they will miss tomorrow’s Under 18 fixture against Chelsea.

Propaganda? Why propaganda? Are you saying it wouldn´t have got a mention on the Arsenal board?
As I said to you before, youth development has become a much more serious endeavour since Roman has come in as it has been at your club since years before.
The youth team have reached their first final since god knows how long (40 odd years?) and even beat Villa who are/were supposed to have the best youth team in the country. You lot aren´t far behind them and we beat you the other day - why shouldn´t we comment?
Of course Sunday is the big one - but that would be a seperate thread.
