Man City v Chelsea LIVE Here from 7pm (KO 7.45pm)
By Since66
April 16 2008
In Man City's 2-1 Premiership win over Sunderland last Saturday, one of City's youth starlets Daniel Sturridge came on as a substitute and not wishing the boy any ill-will I hope the knock he got will keep him out of tonight's 2nd leg of the FA Youth Cup Final at the City of Manchester Stadium.
In the 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge two weeks ago and in front of a near 12,000 crowd, Sturridge the nephew of Dean Sturrdge, caused Chelsea all sorts of problems and scored City's goal. Whether the City of Manchester Stadium equals the first leg's attendance or better's it remains to be seen. Whereas Chelsea offered free admission, City are charging to get into the stadium which to me defies belief, considering Sky Sports are showing the game LIVE. I do hope the City owners change their mind and offer free admission and the Manchester public turn out in force to support the youth in light blue, because if tonight's game is half as good as the first leg, then the fans and the neutrals will be in for a treat. Another City player that impressed me two weeks ago was a young winger called Vladimir Weiss. Along with Sturridge they gave Chelsea the run around especially in the first half. Not to be outdone, Chelsea have their match winners too! Gael Kakuta who rose like Didier Drogba to equalise in the dying minutes of the first leg. Miroslav Stoch our little Slovakian wing wizard. We have Adam Phillip our Youth Cup 'super-sub,' and we have Rhys Taylor who had his best game ever two weeks ago. Although the Academy do seem to have played every day since the first leg, alot of the players have been well and truly rested by Coach Paul Clement and throughout the Academy ethic as well as scoring goals we can concede them as well - 6-4 against Ipswich Town a recent example. So tonight could be goals, goals and more goals all the way. Like two weeks ago and despite Sky Sports Live Coverage, there will be LIVE Coverage throughout the evening from about 7pm on the message board. We also hope that the message board doesn't get the problems as happened 30 mins after the 1st leg ended. City fans if you do read this, please come back because your banter and honesty was refreshing. Martin Tyler who will be commentating on the game gave his pre-match thoughts. He said "It has been a whole host of star-spotting experiences, the first final at Man Utd included Scholes, Beckham, Butt, the Neville brothers, Keith Gillespie, and they lost! "More recently we/ve had people like Agbonlahor, Wayne Rooney played in 2002 and lost to an Aston Villa side that included Steven Davis and Liam Ridgewell. It has been a tremendous research engine for people like me and the viewers." Of the first leg Tyler said, "I really thought it was a very high quality contest, between two bright and emerging teams. Its put us all on alert for what should be a really super second leg. "Both goalkeepers made some very good saves, and I thought both teams took it on as an attacking exercise. The two goal scorers deserved their prominence and were both outstanding. I know a lot more about Daniel Sturridge from commentating in the Youth Cup previously, and he scored an FA Cup goal in front of our cameras at Sheffield United this season. "He is a fabulous talent and I think he will certainly take some stopping, in the first game he was a menace from first to last. "Gael Kakuta's goal was just reward for what he put into the game, and I didn't know he had that sort of goal in him. It was no more than Chelsea deserved but it was a brilliant goal, with a perfect delivery."

Need them to draw twice (Blackburn, West Ham or Wigan) or lose to one of those...then we need to win all ours.
Unfortunately, The Grant factor weighs heavily against us.

After a bulldozing tackle by Jacob Mellis on Kieran Trippier threatened to sour the closing stages of Wednesday’s FA Youth Cup Final – Chelsea coach Paul Clement has revealed that Mellis apologised soon after the final whistle.
Luckily for the City right back, his injury wasn’t as bad as first feared and it didn’t stop him from joining in with the cup celebrations, even being piggy-backed around the pitch at one point.
Speaking to chelseafc.com, Clement said of the incident that earned Mellis a straight red card: "They are young players, they are learning the game.
“Jacob Mellis is very disappointed, it was just a heat of the moment thing and it is something that he will learn from.
“He is very regretful and we hope the Manchester City player is okay.”
Thankfully Kieran should make a swift recovery, as Jim Cassell told us: “He’s not going to be fit for the weekend but it doesn’t look to be too serious.
“Kieran’s had a terrific campaign and he’s available for next year, as a number of the boys are, so it would have been sad if it had ended with a really serious injury.
“It’s a shame really that over the two legs, one loose tackle or bit of irresponsible play should result in a sending off, because both teams have been an absolute credit to youth football.
“On this occasion it was our turn to come out on top. Chelsea were magnificent as a club and staff over the two ties.
“You can’t fall out because of one reckless tackle and it did look bad but these things happen in football and the player has apologised.”
