FIFA Award Chelsea 13.68M in Mutu Cocaine Case

The Official Chelsea web site has announced that the club has been awarded a substantial 13.68 million quid in damages to be paid from ex-player Adrian Mutu. Mutu was sacked by the club in October 2004 after a testing positive for cocaine following months of suspicion from the club and denials by the player.
The compensation was awarded by the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) this morning.
The club stated:
“This is an important decision for football. Not only did the DRC make us a significant monetary award, the decision also recognised the damaging affect incidents involving drugs has on football and the responsibilities we all have in this area.”
There were plenty of detractors who said we would never get our money back who will now have to eat humble pie.
The amount will also help the club accounts balance sheet – not to mention new player contracts and signings, however, some feel that it would be a noble gesture to donate a proportion of the compensation to charity.
And the extra 5M for the final Robinho bid!
