Calderon Fury at Robinho Declarations

Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon has let rip on Spanish radio station Cadena Sur earlier this evening, stating that if Robinho wants to leave then he must hand in a transfer request. Calderon is indignant that a star player could want to leave Real Madrid and demands a pound of flesh in Robinho losing whatever bonuses the player has negotiated should the club decide to sell him.
“Let’s be straight here; we would never retain a player that doesn’t want to be at Real Madrid, and if a player says that he wants to go, and he’s sure that he’s thought things through and the consequences of his decision, then all that he’s got to do is give us a letter unilaterally rescinding his contract”
“Real Madrid will not sell Robinho; we will not sell him to anyone. Real Madrid is a very big club and although we value Robinho, the history of Real Madrid is above Robinho. If the player is brave enough to say what he’s said then I suppose he’ll be brave enough to give us a letter stating that he wants to go, that that is what he wants and then that he leaves ASAP.”
“Robinho is a very important player and now is not the moment – a week before the beginning of the league – for an important player to abandon the club. Talking to the media is not the procedure for leaving the club. Madrid won’t transfer Robinho because the time to transfer a player is at the end of a season, to do so now would be a lack of respect to the supporters and the history of the club. We want him to continue at Real Madrid because we value him – but if he really doesn’t want to be here then he can go ASAP once he rescinds his contract."
Well maybe he should have thought about all that before offering to use Robinho as a make-weight in the Ronaldo deal – demanding respect from the player after that does seem hypocritical.
Looks like Kenyon will have to finalise negotiations as tactfully as possible to get Robinho - Calderon has a LOT of face to save.
Trouble is, he will resist to the maximum as he is losing a lot of face over this - fortunately, other Real Madrid officials appear to accept that there is little point in hanging onto Robinho.
