Stoke Preview: 400 and NOT OUT
COME ON CHELSEA

Should Super Frank Lampard be selected to face Stoke City at Stamford Bridge Saturday, his appearance in a Blue shirt will be his 400th. Well done Frank and congratulations. Now Frank lets have a performance worthy of your personal milestone.Once at 400, Frank will join a rather select list of ex-Chelsea greats and legends who have passed the same milestone:
Ron Harris 795 Peter Bonetti 729 John Hollins 592 Dennis Wise 445 Steve Clarke 421 Kerry Dixon 420 Eddie McCreadie 410 John Bumstead 409 Ken Armstrong 402 Frank Lampard 399 (to date) Chelsea will be without Joe Cole who succumbed to ANOTHER injury against Southend on Wednesday night, and rumours abound suggest that Joey has sustained severe ligament damage and could be out of action, anything from two months to the rest of the season. Just under five years ago, James Beattie scored the second fastest goal in Premiership history when he scored for Southampton in twelve seconds against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge (I remember it well, as I was still queuing up outside to get into the Stadium). When the goal went in, there was a deathly hush amongst the waiting and impatient crowd. In the same game, Beattie scored an own goal and I am sure he gave away a penalty which Super Frank converted and Chelsea won the game 2-1. In another visit, this time with Everton, Beattie collided with Cechie boy and Petr was unable to continue and was substituted. So James Beattie is on his way back to Stamford Bridge with his new side, after his move from Championship side Sheffied United, at the beginning of the week. With our defensive problems, the last thing we need is a battering ram type of player as Beattie is. When we played Stoke at The Britannia back in September, Scolari prepared the defence for the long throws of Rory Delap. That day in our 2-0 win, Delap was injured. At the moment he is expected to play Saturday. Definitely out for Stoke is Ricardo Fuller who is serving the final game of his three match ban after his very very public run-in with Captain Andy Griffin. Saturday's game, on paper, should be a foregone conclusion for Chelsea as Stoke have failed to win in 31 games in the top division away from home. They have lost 23 of those games, drawing the other 8 whilst scoring 12 goals and conceding 72. But with Chelsea there is always a first time for these type of teams to end a miserable record. You know with Chelsea you can expect the unexpected and Chelsea are synonymous with the famous phrase: OH THE GLORIOUS UNPREDICTABILITY!!

He should be a star of the future without a doubt. Will be interesting to see how he performs if he gets a chance. He is supposed to be at least 18 months away from the first team BUT...you never know...if he´s confident enough and not too overawed then we could be witnessing the beginning of something really special sooner than we expected. (I´m probably getting a bit ahead of myself ...just so pleased for the lad!).

Perhaps the same will happen to Gael - Mind you he was in spectacular form on Wednesday night against Walsall.

Interesting re "something else":
Drogba trained with the first team yesterday and stayed behind to practise free-kicks, but that did not convince Scolari to bring him back.
Scolari said his team will adopt a bizarre blend of zonal and man-to-man marking and 'something else' against Stoke in order to combat Rory Delap's outrageous throw-ins.

'I have time for all my players, but I don't know where the heart has gone - maybe there are offers from outside. When we have heart, we play well as a technical team and we are better than the others.
'That is the difference. We have good players, fantastic players, but we need spirit every day, every week and every hour.'
We´d better win now!

The press were obviously guessing (and got it right) that Drogba wasn´t going to be in the team - but used the word squad.
If you see what I mean! Wibble!
