Despite the trouncing the Academy received from Pompey's Youth there was welcome news that striker Adam Phillip returned to action Saturday, after being out of action for seven months with a cruciate ligament injury.Coach Dermot Drummy despite the defeat, remained upbeat.
He said "It was pleasing to see the return of Adam Phillip and three U16s played full games in the youth side which was good for their development. "Other than that, in terms of the development, there is a lot more we need to do off the ball, but we'll take all this back to training and we will try to make it better." The team was very unrecognisble from the team that beat Walsall in the FA Youth Cup midweek. There was no Nic Heimann, no Frank Nouble, no Fabio Borini and no Gael Kakuta (who was on first team duty). The Academy even used two goalkeepers during the game. Sam Walker started the game and at half-time he was replaced by Jan Sebek. Pompey took the lead two minutes from half-time and then through a combination of errors and Pompey's second-half dominance, Pompey scored three more times. Chelsea: Sam Walker (Jan Sebek h/t), Tom Hayden (Nikki Ahamed 70), Rohan Ince, Conteh, Josh McEachran, Conor Clifford, Aliu Djalo (Daneil Philliskirk 65), Milan Lowkovic, Marko Mitrovic, Jordan Tabor (Adam Phillip 60). The Reserves are in action Monday night, away to Aston Villa. The game kicks off at 7pm and there will be LIVE coverage on the message board.
