Chelsea - Transfer Rumour Round-up

A summary of the most recent transfer rumours involving exits of Drogba to City, Malouda to Villa Real, Ivanovic to Fiorentina, Nielsen to Celtic and Cuducini to Spurs with the acquisitions of Robinho from City, Valencia from Wigan, Di Maria from Benfica, Da Costa from Fiorentina and Kleber from Santos (Part 1).
Both Kenyon and Scolari have said that they expected no transfer activity during the January transfer window as the players required are not normally available until the summer. Nevertheless, further qualification of transfer policy comments also included necessity and with Joe Cole now out for the season it remains to be seen if Chelsea plump to rely on back-up from the youth ranks or look for a senior player replacement.
Out - Malouda
Villa Real are first up in the media claims and rumour mill.
The Valencian club are apparently after the signature of left-sided winger Florent Malouda but are only offering £9million for him. Chelsea paid Lyon £13.5m for him in July 2007 and would want more given the new policy of “If you want our players then you must pay top price!”
Malouda has not been quite what we thought he would be despite being French Footballer of the Year when we bought him. He has improved a bit though this season and given the fact that he is the only senior left-footed wide man we have I can’t see us letting him go unless there is an incoming replacement.
Scolari also gives the impression of liking him.
In- Di Maria
The deal with Benfica for the highly rated 20 year old left winger was reported by many to have been agreed for this summer anyway but some papers are saying that there is a buyout clause in his contract set at £27m that is holding the agreement up.
Seems too high and I wouldn´t be surprised if the figure is much lower.
In - Valencia
The Wigan winger is supposed to be on the radar of both Scolari and Ferguson.
Valencia would be a replacement for the crocked Joe Cole but the £12m transfer fee is claimed to be too high for our liking.
Ferguson is unlikely to make a move for Valencia despite having been recommended to him by senior members of United's squad as he has just signed winger Zoran Tosic and also Adem Ljajic for £16.3m from Partizan Belgrade therefore, any move for the player now would count them out of the bidding.
Great player and has the advantage of Premier League experience but I can’t help feeling that I’d love to see us give Stoch a chance - and how likely are Wigan to agree to parting with him given that they have just lost Palacios to Spurs?
Out - Ivanovic
Fiorentina want Ivanovic but his agent, Vlado Borozan has said that it is unlikely that his client will move in January.
"The player likes Fiorentina, he has always said in Italy that he could play with one of the big four [clubs] or Fiorentina.”“
"There is something going on with Manchester City, but Chelsea already refused a €15 million offer from Milan/ His contract is worth over €2 million and with [Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo] Corvino, I’ve only spoken once.”
(The “something going on with Man City…” is highly interesting – easy to draw conclusions involving a player(s) + cash swap deal for Robinho isn’t it?)True, Ivanovic has not been overly used in the first team, but when he has his form has been impressive. However, with the very promising Mancienne knocking at the door and a deluge of quality centre-half’s either already in the first team squad, on loan or in the youth ranks we would have to get rid of one if we are to accommodate him.
Out - Drogba
New financial goliath City are also after Drogba according to the media.
Drogba has had his problems (especially recently) and I don’t need to explain how much of a phenomenal striker he can be when he puts his mind to it, however, despite recent public support from Lampard we don’t really know how much a disruption he may or may not cause in the squad. Many Chelsea fans have had enough of him.
Scolari appears to be ready to welcome him back into the fold:
"But maybe for next week Didier is together with the squad for the game against Ipswich,"
"He doesn't have a problem with me and the club. He is training well and starting to build his condition again, not only his fitness but his technique too."
I can’t see the club letting him go to City – even with a decent offer. It would take a hefty pound of flesh for us to sell him in January (see Ivanovic above).
